Did you climb the tower in San Jimmy? I like to climb any tower that is open to the public for two reasons: to get a great view and nice photos and also to know that I still can. La promenade des Anglais en Nice - ce n'est pas pour les Irlandais, peut-etre? Fairgarth, welcome! Climbing towers? If there's an elevator sure! Your reasons are valid. I'm British LOL. I feel like crying when I hear that little bit of Irish lilt in your accent. It's been too long since we've been to Ireland. The laugh.........there's no way you're getting ahead of me in the dumpster to get the lava cakes!! My fav dessert in Blu on Celebrity and hopefully even better on Quest when we sail in July. Did you ever find out why the Captain waited for the late passenger? I found some pics taken on my iPhone- last night's desserts including the chocolate lava cake...

Rare Bimmer09 Posted November 15, 2021 Author #258 Share Posted November 15, 2021 A WALK AROUND THE HARBOR IN NICE I had to get off the ship as I hadn't set foot on French soil yet and that would not stand! Man- 4 cruise ships in port today?? Turning the corner my heart skips a beat when I see a French-looking street. The only disappointment is....no jaunty accordion music and no Monsieur Hulot on holiday. Carol and I are French Cinema admirers. Based on the menu & pictures above I think I would choose a second breakfast rather than the lunches. So many good choices! Thank you for selling us on Azamara. . . someday
TeaBag Posted November 15, 2021 #261 Share Posted November 15, 2021 My apologies, Norris, about the missing passenger. It was a duh moment because of the ageing brain! Now, there was an opportunity for you to create a story!! I had been reading the Equinox thread just prior to coming to the Azamara one, where the poster had said the ship had already waited 3 hours for a passenger who did not return. They actually sailed 5.5 hours late and Captain said passenger did not return. I am following this sailing because we have neighbours on it. Seems there are a few stories about what happened, some of them very different. A million thanks for the pictures of #7116. It looks like a lovely cabin. Too bad we didn't get it for the Norway Intensive. I am so sorry you got poor weather in Nice. I guess I'll find out tomorrow if you got to St Paul de Vence, a delightful little place. Love all the French. As you probably know we are a bilingual country and we have to have French and English on everything (except for Quebec). We have arrête/stop on all our stop signs but we laughed when we were in Quebec as there is only arrête....no stop! 1
Rare Bimmer09 Posted November 15, 2021 Author #262 Share Posted November 15, 2021 Imagine if the sun was out? I was told Nice gets just 60 days of rain a year. Here's one of them! Captain Smith and some crew came running up and stopped for bottles of water and chat They ran off back to the ship. As it was drizzling I followed in comparative slow-motion. It took about 25 minutes to return to the ship. I rewarded myself with a beer and some conversation in the smoking section up on deck 9.
Grandma Cruising Posted November 15, 2021 #263 Share Posted November 15, 2021 Thanks for the photos of 7116 - We are booked in that cabin on Pursuit for the Black Sea cruise in May 2023. Lovely to see how roomy the balcony is.

Lovely to see how roomy the balcony is. We were in the equivalent cabin on Oceania Sirena on a 35 night cruise around Australia. I asked if we could have two sun loungers for our balcony and we got them! We also had the two balcony chairs and table and amazingly it all fitted in without being overcrowded. So, I can confirm that's it's a very spacious balcony 😎 !!
Rare Bimmer09 Posted November 15, 2021 Author #265 Share Posted November 15, 2021 We had a two hour nap before dinner says Carol's notes. On the way to dinner we stopped to see Andre at Excursions in the Den (photos coming within our lifetime). Our Avignon on your own tour had been cancelled due to lack of interest but we had discussed a back-up, a picturesesque fishing boat town called Cassis (on your own) but it had been canceled "due to lack of interest". We booked an Avignon and Chateauneuf du Pape guided tour which included another wine tasting. Really Carol? Yep she was up for it as she found yesterday's very interesting. We hustled along to dinner in Discoveries fearing that it might have been canceled due to lack of interest before we got there. It wasn't and we sat down at a nice window table. Our server was Jennifer from the Philippines, the only female in the service team. Carol and I have a lot in common-we both like soup. Talking and not talking... We both started with mushroom soup Carol had a Caesar salad, too shy to pose for a photo seemingly so I'll include one of the lovely little Azamara table decorations I had the lobster and asparagus with that potato-wannabe, rice while Carol enjoyed a nice Prime Rib My chocolate and hazelnut mouse torte with hazelnut ice cream and edible pointy thing Carol had a lemon tart but I accidentally shot a one second video instead of a photo and can't use it. It was very yellow if that helps. 6

If it makes you fell any better, our Luberon Villages tour was also cancelled "due to lack of interest", and our only option was the same Avignon and Chateauneuf du Pape guided tour. Since my liver was still recovering from the first wine tasting, we skipped this one so I'm looking forward to your report to see what we missed.
Rare Bimmer09 Posted November 15, 2021 Author #267 Share Posted November 15, 2021 I just found part of the menu for that dinner(so many photos in different places) I was wearing a crisp white shirt this evening as I thought it was "White Night" having seen on the buffet planner "Bright Night". I thought it was a typo. It was a typo but it was supposed to be Fright Night October 31. Halloween 1
Rare Bimmer09 Posted November 15, 2021 Author #268 Share Posted November 15, 2021 After dinner of course I had to have a cigarette up on deck 9. The Pool Bar closes at 8 on this cruise. This area wasn't frequented during the cruise but Az still kept it looking welcoming We visited the Cabaret Lounge which was packed as usual. Konstantin the ship's photographer was snapping away as the crowd danced. Some good singers on the ship's staff. There is no lack of enthusiasm in the Quest entertainers.
Rare Bimmer09 Posted November 15, 2021 Author #269 Share Posted November 15, 2021 We had been up since six a.m so it wasn't unreasonable to hit the hay (we had a bale delivered from the Nice Riding School) at 10 pm (click image above) When we come back- daily Insiders for day 2 and 3 in Livorno, Josh Whizz has sports and Storm Shelton with weather. Sheal Posted November 15, 2021 #271 Share Posted November 15, 2021 Norris, I'm loving the review and you have piqued my interest in the Azamara line. Not sure how my husband would feel, he loves the activity (think people watching) and atmosphere of the larger ships. I lean towards Celebrity as I can do without the constant hawking of Bingo, gold by the inch and Art. Lori

Rare Bimmer09 Posted November 15, 2021 Author #274 Share Posted November 15, 2021 Carol sent me a pic to show you- the room service breakfast she had on our first two excursion mornings doesn't that look good? Today we have no excursion until I think1.15 pm so we can indulge in the luxury and service excellence of Discoveries! The charming Lailanie greets Sir Norris and Lady Carol. Alex from the Philippines will be your excellent waiter Carol's espresso. Not what we were used to in Rome. No crema=no flavor. It's a brand we have never heard of. Lyreco is the distributor. The bean is probably Arabica Mud. I have heard of Kellogs Cornflakes and I'm having some! Alex poured my milk as I obviously didn't have the strength Carol's refreshing fresh fruit plate We both had the steak and eggs What a way to start the day! 3
Rare Bimmer09 Posted November 15, 2021 Author #275 Share Posted November 15, 2021 After breakfast Carol was thinking of a quiet place to relax and read. I suggested the Promenade Deck (#5)It was her favorite place on the Ocean Princess and the Journey. The air was damp so she retired to 7116 to relax on the sofa. I went to the Pool Deck 9.15 a.m. I went (carefully hugging the walls) back to our cabin and got my computer and worked on developing my photos. Rome sunset at this time. I don't recall what the fancy drink is next to my beer-the waiter just brought it over for me to try. The deck was deserted so I wasn't disturbed.
