*Do you have to wear a mask on the pool deck when your laying out in the sun?*

Funny how they can fit 100,000 unmasked, untested, screaming people into many football stadiums every Saturday and Sunday and not have any outbreaks.......

Not funny is still over 700 Americans are dying everyday from COVID.

Currently in New Orleans you have to show proof of vaccination or proof of a recent negative COVID test. How many games have you attended?

Why is Carnival the only Cruise line making guest wear masks??  I've read other reviews from other lines that once they are board they dont have to wear one walking around.

I am ready to get rid of them for good!!

Because it varies just like it does here in America. Each state/locality is different. Some towns still require you to wear a mask indoors. In Virginia where I live, they dropped the mask mandate in May. The only place you have to wear a mask, is when you go into a healthcare facility. Some school districts in Northern Virginia I think are requiring students to wear a mask but aren't certain on that.

Many other states are the same way. Then you have states like where BlerkOne mentioned, where you have to have a test or vaccine to enter. Thankfully that's not here, but it just goes to show that it varies everywhere you go.

I agree with the comment about games. I am a season ticket holder for my university and have attended every game, plus about half of the away games. I am not sure I saw a single mask at any point during the season. That's for football and soccer both. (I'm a sports junkie). Yet some schools in North Carolina are still wanting the kids to wear masks.

So, we can be in a crowded hallway without a mask but when walking to my table I have to wear one but when I sit 3 ft from the stranger next to me I don't.  Is that it?

That's what gets me.  it makes no sense.  If they (not just Carnival) had rules that made sense then OK, but they don't.  They arbitrarily put in rules to make it look like they are doing some good.  Oh and these are all (95%) vaccinated people with a negative test.....

Excellent evaluation of the "rules". I've now cancelled 2 cruises because of this and other restrictions and testing for  VACCINATED and BOOSTED guests. I see it as kissing the CDC's butt to stay in business. Carnival counters with daily emails offering the same cruises for a fraction of what I originally was booked. I fully expect an email tomorrow offering to PAY ME to cruise on the Panorama or Miracle out of Long Beach. 🙂

This made me curious so I checked another cruise line's site; here is what is stated in FAQ's for Royal Caribbean.

Below are current mask policies. We are continually evaluating mask policies as public health standards and government regulations evolve. Booked guests will be advised of the latest requirements for their port of departure before sailing.

This guidance is for all guests age 2 and up. Guests under the age of 2 do not need to wear a mask.

Masks are NOT required to be worn:

  • In open-air areas of the ship, unless you are in a crowded setting
  • In the pool or any activity where they may become wet
  • At venues designated for vaccinated guests only, such as select bars, lounges, restaurants and shows
  • In your stateroom when you are with your traveling party
  • While visiting our private destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay, unless you are in a crowded setting
  • By any guest under the age of 2

Masks ARE required to be worn:

  • While indoors onboard the ship, unless seated and actively eating or drinking
  • While visiting public ports of call, where local regulations may require them

Have you actually heard of any Carnival ships following stricter rules than stated here/on website?

No. I was just on the Magic. It was pretty much a non issue. Almost everyone followed the rules and in the rare cases they did not they were told nicely by a staff member. Only time I saw it bad was people walking through the lido buffet

So you'll only follow rules when someone approaches you and tells you to?  Just because there doesn't happen to be a crewmember handy to personally remind you that you're supposed to have on your mask in the theatre doesn't mean that it's ok to ignore the requirement.

That person is the exception thankfully. Im sure each cruise is different but the one we just got back from there was very few instances of people breaking the covid rules...or at least from what i saw.

I was on Magic in September, and saw that roughly a third of the people in shows and the comedy club were either unmasked, wearing masks as chin diapers, or uncovering their nose.

I was on Pride last week and on several occasions well over half of the people in the theatre and comedy club were ignoring masking rules, despite the fact that repeated announcements were made reminding people to mask up.

I guess Carnival needs to get a bit more proactive with enforcing their policies, or else admit that these policies don't matter to them.  They actively enforce no-smoking areas, why is it such a stretch to have a couple of people available in the theatre and clubs to politely enforce the masking rules?

If I am vaccinated and tested negative, why do I still need to wear a mask?  When does it become the responsibility of the non vaccinated to take care of themselves and not rely on others?

That's indeed one of the common sense questions people refuse to address...just follow whatever they're told to do.  And remember to wear a warm jacket this winter so the people next to you don't freeze...unbelieveable.

Ahhh, but it's been shown that masking plays a large part in preventing the spread of the Coronavirus and other airborne pathogens. The most pronounced effect is to reduce the chance of the mask wearer spreading Covid to other people - it's not just about protecting yourself.  It's also well known that fully vaccinated people can carry and spread Covid for several days even though they have no symptoms.

Here's a graphic developed by German doctors that explains this quite well.

I assume person on left is contagious?  And person on right unvaccinated??

What are percentages if person on left is vaccinated and tested negative in last 48 hours, And person on right is vaccinated?  With or without masks the percentages are going to be super low.

ANY reduction in the spread is better than NO reduction much less an INCREASE.

The vaccines are less effective against variants and the more the virus infects, the more chances for variants that could be more resistant.

There is NO data to support this.  The Omicron variant has been known about for a week.  Not nearly enough time to determine if vaccines work more or less effectively against it.

I was referring to Delta. There have been other, more resistant variants, but they have not been able to become dominant like Delta. I agree not much is currently known about omicron, but it has made it's way to the US.

Warm jackets are not contagious.

Carnival protocols state that they strongly encourage wearing masks in all indoor areas but they do not require it except for specially listed places like in elevators, retail shops, casinos, etc.  When I cruised on the Carnival Glory in October, we were encouraged to wear masks when the comedian was being introduced but reminded that it was a "recommendation" or something to that effect; not required.

So true.  I did what was responsible for society, I got vaccinated and got the booster.  I am not responsible for people do not.

Carnival started out that way, but then came Delta. NCL requires 100 % vax. Royal segregates venues by vax status. You have a choice. I choose the cruise line that cares the most about my safety and the safety of fellow passengers, even if other passengers don't.

And which one is that?  None of the protocols guarantees 100% safety. Each has pro’s and con’s.  One may like one better while someone else likes another. Choice is good.

That would be Carnival. You are entitled to a different opinion. IMO proactive is better than reactive. Easier to prevent/reduce than to play catch up. Just like preventive medicine, it saves lives and money.

I’m fine with vax requirement and 48 hour testing.  That’s all verifiable.  The mask protocols (not just on Carnival but everywhere) are so inconsistent they just don’t make sense.

Perhaps inconsistent and perhaps not uniformly enforced, but any reduction in transmission is welcomed. Proper masks and mask wearing does reduce transmission. You can bet all cruise lines have thresholds when mask wearing won't be optional and keep a stash of masks onboard.
