Sharpyling Posted December 16, 2021 #1 Share Posted December 16, 2021 We last minute booked ourselves and two kids on the Apex sailing on 12/20. All of the shore excursions for St. Thomas are full. Just wondering how likely it is for Celebrity to open up more space on the full excursions closer to sailing.
Guindalf Posted December 16, 2021 #2 Share Posted December 16, 2021 It depends on the tour operators. If the deem it viable, they will add more vehicles/guides, etc. there’s no guarantee. As st Thomas is a US territory, you can probably go to the ports section of this forum and book a private tour whi, provided you go with a reputable company, can be better and cheaper. You may even be on the same tour as one provided by X at a lower price!
Want2Cruise 701 Posted December 16, 2021 #3 Share Posted December 16, 2021 If you’re all vaccinated, you can tour on your own in St Thomas. You don’t need to do a ship excursion unless they change the guidelines between now and then.
Sharpyling Posted December 16, 2021 Author #4 Share Posted December 16, 2021 Yes we are all vaccinated! Do you have any recommendations for reputable tour companies or which one X uses?
jelayne Posted December 16, 2021 #5 Share Posted December 16, 2021 The tour operators X uses usually don’t book individuals because their prices are generally lower than what X charges ( X makes money on the tours) and they can’t, by contract, compete with the cruise line that has them committed. Try tge Ports of call board, Trip Advisor, Tours by Locals for options
Guindalf Posted December 16, 2021 #6 Share Posted December 16, 2021 ^^^^^^ This is NOT TRUE! I've booked direct before and sat side-by-side with people who booked the same tour through the cruise line and paid as much as $25 more!
CyberTag Posted December 16, 2021 #7 Share Posted December 16, 2021 Check when you get on board since some people may end up canceling.
Scuppersisontheboat Posted December 16, 2021 #8 Share Posted December 16, 2021 Rent a car or Jeep and go hit some beaches and tourist sites, you don’t need to bother with a tour in St Thomas.
Rare Jim_Iain Posted December 17, 2021 #9 Share Posted December 17, 2021 They often open additional tours if the provider has the resources. I have also had the opposite and had excursions cancelled and putting me on a different time without telling me. This just happened on Catalina Island in October. They did remove it once I dropped by the excursion desk even though less than 24 hours. The time of 7:00 AM didn't work as Iain refuses to get out of bed that early while on a cruise unless the ship is sinking.
