World Cruise Day 99/152 - Yanbu, Saudi Arabia - Ding dong the mask is gone, and so are we from Saudi Arabia

Next time you see Aaron the fabulous bartender, ask him if he was on the Viking Orion  Bermuda sailing in July , as the pool bartender?

How many Aaron the bartender can there be at Viking?

He is a gem . He makes a  great golden margarita

Cheers, Patti

While we were reading on our balcony today, we could hear the call to prayer from at least three mosques in Yanbu.  A little later, we thought there was another call to prayer, but it sounded more like a sermon than a lyrical call to prayer.  Arlona suggested that it must be tough living near a mosque if you have a small child that naps anywhere near prayer time.  The call to prayer is broadcast from atop the mosque via loudspeakers and is quite loud.”

When I went to live in Israel for my job, I didn’t think I would ever get used to the call to prayer. It started around 5:00am and there were several per day. It only took me a few days to get used to it and in fact, eventually I quite enjoyed them — especially while out walking in the evenings.

I felt the same way when I lived in Africa. I was startled at first but grew to find them peaceful.

Yes by air.  16 hr excursion.  People who went said that it was a long day.

Tanks Jim. That was the one place that I wanted to see in Saudi Arabia  . The tombs there were carved by the same people that did Petra.

World Cruise Day 101/152 - Aqaba, Jordan - Magnificent Petra!

Great blog about your day in Petra. I can’t believe how uncrowded it looks . You very lucky not to have the mass of humanity that would have been normal before Covid.

We are also very early in the season. The weeks ago this was all covered with snow.

When we went about 4 years ago it was late in the season and it was still more crowded. You all really were very lucky to experience Petra without a massive amount of tourist.

I think you may have mixed up countries. Singapore is not a Muslim country, it's government is secular and their executions are not beheadings, they are hangings besides I don't think tourists have much to fear unless they are smuggling drugs and arms, committing murder or piracy or decide to wage a war against the Singapore government😂

A teenager from the US was arrested for chewing gum on the subway. He was sentenced to be caned. Singapore is super clean as a result.

Our guide said that Ramadan cut the crowds down as it was jammed the day before. We went to Wadi Rum today and it was as impressive as Petra. Awesome scenery!

First off nothing to do with executions😂. Second urban myth. Michael P Fay was sentenced to six strokes (reduced to four) of the cane for theft of road signs and vandalising 18 cars. The possession and masticating of chewing gum is not illegal in Singapore. It is the importation and selling of chewing gum that is illegal and so far no tourist has ever been charged with chewing gum offence😂. This video is a good explanation of chewing gum's history in Singapore:

World Cruise Day 102/152 - Aqaba, Jordan - A lazy day and shopping

A Port Huron/Sarnia jacket? In Jordan?? How funny! What an obscure thing to find in a market halfway around the world.

(To those not familiar with Michigan or Ontario, Port Huron/Sarnia is one of the border crossings between the US and Canada, and not a wildly busy one. It’s kind of in the middle of nowhere.)

Although, as a past Windsorite, the Bluewater Bridge was a staple of my existence many years ago when returning from seeing clients in Sarnia. Way faster to cross over and take I94 home, plus, there was a great package store in Marysville. 🍻

I gather that the activity level at the crossing was "somewhat" increased during the recent blockade of the Ambassador Bridge - fortunately that embarrassment is behind us. 😈

Geez, talk about thread drift - sorry ... 🍺🥌

In Qatar on our Inland Sea tour we saw piles of trash around the dunes☹️. Our guide even complained saying he wished the government would crack down on the littering. He said local families visited on the weekends, have picnics, do some fishing then literally leave everything behind. I guess they are not familiar with the leave only footprints concept🙄

Thanks again for your post.  Looks like you are working on your tan.  Sharm-El-Sheikh has been a popular resort for a long time.  Shooting up the beach a few years ago not withstanding.  As to the armament, we had private tours in Egypt on the Inaugural WC and had a driver and Egyptologist in the car with us and a two person fully armed Police car escort everywhere we went from Safaga and Alexandria.  Not sure if that made us feel better or more scared. Our guide told us the escort is related to US foreign aid.  All US tourists must be "protected". Just what we were told but we went nowhere without them.  Even meals.  And even stranger, this private tour cost less than the optional Viking tour on the bus.....🍸
