wonderfultravels Posted January 16, 2022 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2022 Hello, Happy New Year to all of you. My family is planning to fly from the USA to the UK in the summer (June or early to mid July 2022). They want to go on a cruise (ideally 3-5 nights or maybe a bit longer 7 nights) to Norway, either from the UK or can fly to Norway and take the cruise within Norway. The age ranges of the guests are two adults (mid 40s) and one young adult (17). Any advice on a lovely cruise? Preferably a newer ship. Thank you wonderfultravels
CruiserBruce Posted January 18, 2022 #2 Share Posted January 18, 2022 Not aware anyone is doing 3 to 5 day cruises in that area, and certainly not from the UK for 3 to 5 days. Plan on a week cruise...maybe 10 days.
hallasm Posted January 18, 2022 #3 Share Posted January 18, 2022 You can do a voyage along the Norwegian coast with Hurtigruten or Havila Voyages 6 days Bergen to Kirkenes or shorter if you start in Ålesund or Trondheim. The coastal route is a service along the Norwegian Coast operated by Hurtigruten and Havila with a fixed time table - departure from Bergen each day and possible to start at another port or end at another port. Quite nice experience but not fully to be compared with a cruise.
goldiemom Posted January 18, 2022 #4 Share Posted January 18, 2022 Check Princess Cruises. They have a 7 day cruise out of Southampton to Norway in early June. Celebrity and Holland America also have 7 day cruises to Norway from Amsterdam.
CCJack Posted January 19, 2022 #5 Share Posted January 19, 2022 We took a Cunard 7-day cruise out of Southampton to Norway. It was a great trip. Spent a couple days in London. Of course you have to arrange for travel (likely bus) to SH from London.

Any thoughts on how that ships/itinerary would compare to these? I will try and post the P&O itinerary on here.

wonderfultravels Posted January 19, 2022 Author #10 Share Posted January 19, 2022 Hello, Thank you for your replies, I appreciate them. We are considering the P&O Iona as one option, there are 7 night sailings which leave from Southampton, UK (we will be coming in from the USA) and go to the Norwegian Fjords. We would like to get a balcony room if possible, there are 3 adults, two in their 40s and one who is 17. Any experiences on the Iona and/or with P&O. The young adult in the group would like to do some hiking, visit Pulpit rock, and maybe see some Viking museum(s). The older adults would like to visit some cultural attractions, e.g. museums I believe the P&O itinerary is as follows: STAVANGER, NORWAY - (Pulpit rock) OLDEN, NORWAY INNVIKFJORDEN (CRUISE-BY), NORWAY NORDFJORD (CRUISE-BY), NORWAY HELLESYLT, NORWAY GEIRANGER, NORWAY GEIRANGERFJORD, NORWAY SUNNYLVSFJORDEN (CRUISE-BY), NORWAY STORFJORDEN (CRUISE-BY), NORWAY HAUGESUND, NORWAY (Viking village) Thank you

In Olden and Geiranger there are some excellent view points.

Yes, the actual stops are: 1) Stavanger - Arrive morning, depart afternoon 2) Olden - Arrive morning, depart early evening 3) Geiranger - Arrive morning, depart afternoon 4) Haugesund - Arrive morning, depart afternoon Any must do/must sees in any of these stops? I believe Haugesund has a Viking museum, do any of these other locations have any Viking history exhibits worth visiting? Thank you
