WaukeeHawk Posted January 18, 2022 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2022 With Puerto Rico not allowing ships to dock since the end of December (due to their covid testing protocols), what have some of the replacement ports been?
Cruisenthusiast Posted January 18, 2022 #2 Share Posted January 18, 2022 So far it’s been either Nassau or Half Moon Cay, depending on the ship and itinerary.
ProgRockCruiser Posted January 18, 2022 #3 Share Posted January 18, 2022 Stupid question probably, or at least a repeat, because I haven't been following this board as much due to other things keeping me busy, but I did do a search here and general Google and found nothing specific: When is Puerto Rico expected to lift/adjust their requirement for 48 hrs test prior to arrival, which has essentially banned cruise ships? Or have they made no prediction / forecast? With Carnival offering up "free" or really low cost cruises, the Eastern Carib offerings often have Puerto Rico as a stop. I'd like to stop there again, but obviously Carnival will have to adapt if they are effectively closed.

Aplmac Posted January 20, 2022 #5 Share Posted January 20, 2022 Hundreds of us living on Barbados are waiting for Puerto Rico to snap out of it, so Carnival can resume their Southern Caribbean cruise route - Southward to Barbados and back to San Juan! Here in Barbados, we can board at Bridgetown literally ten minutes from my house, on the other side of town - without going anywhere near a ruddy airport! And that's a big big Plus! But as long as this Covid-19/20/21/22 plague is upon us, I'm not holding out much hope before end of 2023, if I'm not dead first! I'm not a young man any more!

Have you seen any indication that Carnival will resume cruises from San Juan? I know that a few months back, San Juan popped up as an embarkation port on the Carnival website, but it didn’t show any sailings. Made me think that something was in the works and an announcement was coming, but then it disappeared. It seems like every other cruise line has announced new sailings from San Juan. Royal, Celebrity, NCL, Disney, Virgin, Windstar, Sea Dream, etc all have sailings scheduled. Heck, even NCL announced that next year’s season out of San Juan will be on their brand new Norwegian Viva! I think that’s the first time a brand new ship has been assigned to this market. kitten816 Posted March 28, 2022 #9 Share Posted March 28, 2022 Sorry if this has been answered, San Juan is still showing for my Sept cruise, is sailing happening again there, or more than likely it will change elsewhere?
jolyroger Posted April 3, 2022 #10 Share Posted April 3, 2022 I'm curious about this too since our cruise in July still has San Juan showing as well.
rs45thompson Posted April 3, 2022 #11 Share Posted April 3, 2022 My understanding is cruises are going to San Juan now. This post is two months old.
klfrodo Posted April 3, 2022 #12 Share Posted April 3, 2022 Just got off the Carnival Freedom and we ported in San Juan. All shops and stores in San Juan were adamant about having people wear masks.

Those itineraries are peak Caribbean cruising.
