Celebrity Newbie-Questions

We are considering going on a Celebrity Summit for a 5 day cruise to Key West and Cozumel in November 2022.  Is this a good ship for first timers at Celebrity? Does it have an adults only space for free? What is the Solarium? We are an older couple who likes bars and entertainment. I don't see a lot of bars on this ship.  Do they show movies out on deck? Do you have to dress up for dinner?  We don't dress up at all. Can we still eat in the main dining room every night without worrying about the dress code?  Sorry for so many questions.

doubtful it will stop at Key West.  Solarium is an adults only pool area.  Dress code is VERY relaxed.

It is a nice ship, but smaller. Also, the shorter itinerary might be better as a first timer to test the Celebrity waters.

The Solarium is a class covered area that is for 16 & up. There is no charge to use it.

Do they show movies out on deck?

Not that I recall, but I haven't been on the ship since COVID, so anything is possible.

Clothes are required 😁  Pretty much any clothes. I usually wear jeans or khakis and a button down short sleeved shirt. My wife wears jeans or black pants and a top (I'm a guy so don't ask me what type of top, but she looks neat, not fancy).

Enjoy!

The ship is an older class one but still worthwhile for a 'test run'.  As for dressing up, it is relaxed.   However, shorts and jeans with holes are not advised for dinner.

As mentioned, don't plan on docking at Key West.

It's a great ship for first-timers. In fact, she was my first Celebrity ship.

I don't know how many bars you are looking for, but it had plenty for me (and I'm a bar guy). Martini Bar, Cellar Masters, Sunset Bar, Rendezvous Lounge, Pool Bar, Mast Bar all are good spots. Even Café Bacio has a bar.

There are movies on the deck on 12 (can't recall the name). They tend to be around mid-day.

For dress code in the evening, there is one, but it's very relaxed. I've attached it below. The "evening chic" nights are optional. If you ever just want to dress way down in shorts and stuff, the food in the buffet (Oceanview Café) is very good.

Have fun!

I love Summit.  Been on here multiple times....early in her debut and then again this past August.  She's a little smaller than other Celebrity ships (way smaller than the Royal Megaships) but she's the perfect size for us.  She has everything we want in a cruise and she's in wonderful shape.   To top it off, she has a fantastic crew!

We're trying to figure out when we can go on her again.  I think everyone here has answered your questions but don't hesitate to ask more!

@cruisekitty22:  The Summit is a M-class ship so is one of the smallest Celebrity ships currently sailing.  I also think it is a great option for your first Celebrity cruise.

You didn't ask about Celebrity's policy regarding smoking, so you may already understand that there are no indoor smoking areas.  No smoking on balconies or in the casino.  The limited smoking venues are outside

We have sailed Celebrity a number of times in the fall.. there are usually few children on board.. just an observation. I have not sailed on the M Class ship... Dress code is not hard to meet... even their chic  night.. I wear capri pants and a chico type top..and I usually wear this every night. DH usually wears polo shirt and on chic night I might get him into a blazer and tie...but casual shoes... if there is a second chic night.. it will be in a dress shirt with no tie or jacket. So shorts may get you sent out ..but generally they are pretty flexible... The Ocean View cafe is always an option and frankly a pretty good option.. The shows are pretty good..although I think Royal..with larger ships..can afford bigger productions. I have heard nice things about M class ships and hopefully we will be able to try one..would like to try sailing out of Tampa

Summit is small, but it was recently completely "revolutionized" and feels like a brand new ship. It is beautiful and has lovely spaces throughout. I sailed her in November and loved her so much that I have already booked another sailing for March. There aren't a ton of bars, but the ones there are are fantastic. The theatre is beautiful and comfortable with cute little loveseats, instead of cramped, folding, movie theater seats. Plus each seat gets a little table for your drinks.

As for dressing up... clearly this means different things to different people. I had to buy a whole new wardrobe for my first Celebrity sailing. I literally only owned jeans, t-shirts, and sneakers. None of which are acceptable at dinner in the MDR. I bought some wide-legged printed pants and some button down linen shirts for normal nights and I have two printed maxi dresses for the "evening chic" nights.

My husband is sailing with me for the first time on Celebrity this Friday and he had to buy a pair of slacks to wear for evening chic nights. He, fortunately, already had a bunch of button down shirts.

Glad to see the smoking policy. A plus in my book.

Still hoping smoking will be restricted to those that are swimming behind the ship.

Summit class are our favorite ships. 2000 passengers.  Mostly 50+.  And elevators both fore/aft AND midship.  Sought her out for a cruise this summer.  You can enjoy the great food and service.

And agree, not likely any ships stopping in Key West except very small.

Cruised Carnival- a zoo.  Royal too many kids.  This is designed for adults wanting to relax.

The summit is a lovely ship it was revolutionized a few years ago so it is all fresh and clean.  The dress club code is pretty lax if you want to dress up great but you don’t have to.  The solarium is a covered pool for adults only. There are several bars on the ship and entertainment is good and there is a movie area at the back of the ship on the top deck. I was on her in October and she looked great. I think you would very much enjoy it  😎
