This is so frustrating.

 

Travelling from Australia, need to get a test before we board our flight, however now we need to find somewhere in the middle of our travels to Miami to get a second test, adding yet another cost to our travels.

Guests are also responsible for complying with all local health and safety requirements which may include additional testing.”

At least you are able to fly to Miami for a cruise.  My cruises to Australia keep getting cancelled.

Cruise lines are definitely shifting this cost back to the customer. It is getting insanely expensive for limited supplies. One of the leading testing supply companies shutdown operations over the Summer because it was coming to an end. Then Delta and Omicron hit. On top of that is a lot of companies require weekly testing if you are not vaccinated. Some companies are requiring weekly testing regardless. Another issue is the popup testing sites. Because there were no requirements in the laws about cost of testing, they can charge what they want back to insurance. I forgot the name of the one, but they are billing $350-$500 back to insurance.

The good news is it will be easy to get a test in Miami.  Antigen tests cost around US$50 per person.

NCL continues to extend their check in the testing. They may still be doing it when you sail. Royal Caribbean has always had their passengers provide their own testing.
 

The additional test and cost is being created by your itinerary.  Consider flying in the day before cruise and using your test for both your flight and cruise. You have the benefit of an extra day being on the other side of the date line. And vacationing in Florida after the cruise versus before.
