Final Payment - Checkin?

Hi - do you to have made final payment in order to checkin?  My final payment isnt due until Feb 18th but I can checkin as of tomorrow.

I heard on one of the cruise blogs you do not have to make final payment to check in. I can't remember if it was Harr or Midship that I seen it

It’s strange. We just booked. Check in was available. We paid in full as our final payment date is Feb 9th.

You can check in 45 days in advance even if final payment is 30 days out.  That's what we did for our 12/30 Jewel cruise.  Look at the Royal app for your cruise. It will tell you when check in starts.

Did our check in last week.  Final payment is next week and has nothing to do with my ability to check in.

I did the check in last week for first leg and paid finial payment this morning for both legs. I'll do check in for the second leg tomorrow.

What has allowed the ability to check in prior to final payment with RCCL / Celebrity, in particular, is the recent extension of final payment to 30 days prior to sailing. This IMO is a good thing.

 

This was done to discourage early passenger cancelations given the fluid nature of the pandemic conditions as impacting the sailing and port of call protocols.  As these are not typically firmly in place until 30 days prior to sailing, they decided to coordinate final payment with that in order to give passengers more time to determine the actual protocols in place with their sailing and hopefully reduce the cancelation rates.

 

Once things return to a more normal condition, they will likely revert to the 90 days prior to sailing final payment date, which will no longer allow for the 45 day check in window to be prior to final payment.
