Just back from Krazy Lobster

Costa Maya was our last stop on the Allure last week and truthfully, I was at that point where I couldn't eat or drink any more, so I'm very glad I didn't go with an All-inclusive.  I cruised with a friend and we took the $4 per person each way taxi to the Krazy Lobster based on CC posts.  The cab was clean and nice.  After we got to town, someone escorted us to the Krazy Lobster and found us lounge chairs in the sun.  They immediately brought us tiny sample frozen margaritas.  I love Pacifico and Sol beer and they are kind of hard to find in my town (at least at restaurants).  I had one of each and my friend had a Coca Cola lite.  Our bill was only $6 since we weren't hungry and had already had a Bloody Mary or two on the ship.  We gave them $20.  We had a great time watching a few local families play in the cold water.  There were a few vendors who were very polite.  We bought a mango and it was amazing.

A vendor of beautiful blankets.  You can also see how extremely laid back the Krazy Lobster is.

The main street.  The manager was standing here as we left and he introduced himself and asked how everything was.  We felt very safe walking to the taxi area from here.

It was a great day and so much better than the port area to me.

We also enjoyed our  first visit to Krazy Lobster last week.

We have previously been to Tropicante and checked it out again this trip but it was closed. (Not sure if that was specifically  because it was a Sunday and a lot of local families were enjoying the beach.) We did cautiously get talked into one expensive beer at El Faro while looking at Tropicante. Sadly back at the ship we heard yet another story of a family that were overcharged at El Faro. Not sure how this has continued for so many years.

KL was much larger than Tropicante but good clean and honest service. We enjoyed a couple of $5 bucket of beers and nachos. The beers are the small size that I asked about earlier but they  do have several brands available. Regular size can also be purchased. There is a predominance of tables and chairs and I would prefer a lounger for a longer stay but it was cloudy on Sunday and chairs were fine. Vendors were very polite but rather excessive in number.

I was interested in recent taxi charges and were indeed quoted $4pp, (plus tip according to the dispatcher) which I consider excessive but since there were only two of us, $8 charge made no difference. We asked for Krazy Lobster and were taken directly to back entrance and then escorted. Interestingly enough  we were charged $7 on return!

I’d love to see your pictures, but they are not showing up for me. Would you mind re-posting them?

I cannot seem to find their website in English. Does anyone have a link for that?

Thanks!

You will need to use translate option if on an iPad.

I tried to link but it reverts.

Was this man selling things? I would love to grab souvenirs while on the beach instead of having to take up time in the port area.

You will have lots of opportunities!

Is this on the main strip of shops and other restaurants? Is it kid friendly for 11-to-16-year olds?  I saw you said no reservations, but is there a charge?

Last time we did the main strip, but I have recently come across this place.  I am really interested and want to go 🙂

Apparently, this is what the Krazy Lobster specializes in:

"Specialty of the house

° Lobster "Krazy Lobster"

° Lobster stuffed with pear, apple, mango, bacon, gratin with Manchego cheese. Accompanied by onion rings, vegetables and rice. Lobster weight 400 grams."

Thanks so much for your review!

Was the water relatively clear?

The Mexican government has installed offshore baffles which seems to have been helping the beaches along malecon. We noticed sargassum was starting this week while driving out on road out of town compared to a couple of weeks ago.

To update:

Back at Krazy Lobster today, due to change of plans, and water was quite clear with significant baffles around the swimming area!
