Recent Royal Up successful / lost bids?

Recommended Posts

Thought we could get a thread together on the current state of Royal Up bids - have you been successful bidding at minimum? Did you go way above and still get denied?

We are sailing on the Allure in March and have a few bids in for suites, so we are curious if we are going way higher than we need to.. but mystery is the name of the bidding game, isn’t it?!

I was on oasis feb 06 in good balcony.  Bid $1500 on suites other then Junior.  Came up empty.  Ship was less then half full.  Rejection notice after sailing.
i am in inside casino room mar 6 on symphony.  Min bids on balconies less then 2 weeks to go, nothing yet.

my OPINION is that although there is a ton of rooms,  they have some covid spacing rules that trump the almighty dollar.  I think you have to bid strong.

I am sticking with my good location inside room as it was a free cruise.  I doubt the min bids will produce,  we had mostly empty balconies on the feb 6 sailing.

Our last two wins (one on Allure and one on Harmony)were both minimum bids for CLS placed about two weeks prior to sail date. We have one in right now for a CLS on Harmony 2/27 that we placed last week at 50% off the previous minimum (we actually cancelled our previous minimum bid and then re-bid at the lower minimum).

If we get it, great. If not, no big deal.

Just like poker. A lot of people don’t want to show their hand even after a win.  Eventually everyone will realize that Royalup is actually a contest where the highest bidder WINS.

I can guarantee there have been a few of us who tipped our hands to early and actually lost an upgrade by someone throwing an extra 50.00 on their bid.
I don’t mind sharing my bids and results ( or am I bluffing 😉)

some people play this as the final table of the World Series of Poker.

it does bring the gambler out of all of us.

Ha! I almost included a quip about people wanting to keep their bids private until their deathbed… but you hit on that well! Highest bid wins, it’s just a question of what the highest bid is… especially when people are just throwing out a minimum and hoping for the best! Do you go $15 higher or $200 higher… it’s all a game🤔

Thanks so much! We are hopeful for our bids on Allure, but are super happy with our spacious balcony currently and won’t be devastated if we don’t get it. When did you learn your bids were accepted for your previous two cruises? Good luck for 2/27!!!

Fingers crossed for ya!! That’s super interesting about leaving balconies open… COVID spacing beating $$.. who would’ve thought! Hope you get lucky!

The main Royal Up thread seems to be the one for that info - many others have tried to start a thread like this, to only have it slip off the main page and almost never to be posted in again.

Apparently, we were the only ones bidding on those two cruises then, because we won with the minimum $400/pp bid on both of them.

On our last two winning bids, we received the upgrade notification 5 to 6 days prior to the sail date.

I will definitely post here if they accept our $200/pp bid on this one.

Update, just got notified, first business day 2 weeks out.  Free casino Inside to OV balcony, symphony $150 each.  There is not option to rebid for a suite at this time.  You cannot manipulate anything on the royal up page anymore.  So our free cruise is now $300 plus tips, plus, plus, plus.....LOL.....

Did you check to see what a direct upgrade with CR would be ?

I had previously gotten an email to bid for our Anthem cruise back in January, I made a bid on the Junior Suite and the 1 bedroom suite.  Oddly when I attempt to log in and check it says to make sure I am within 30 days of sailing, and I can't for the life of me find the emails I was sent when I bid and when I got emailed the confirmation.  I rarely do a final delete of emails, yet it is like they vanished.  When I log in for my mom on the same sailing, it gives her the options to bid, yet I now get nothing.  Not even something showing I already had bids in place.  Just thought it was really weird.

We are sailing on Harmony on Sunday. We booked a spacious ocean view balcony and I was very happy with the room we selected, but put in a bid on a junior suite when I first got the Royal Up e-mail. About a month ago, someone on here mentioned being able to bid on rooms for a lower than usual bid. I went in and added minimum bids for the Grand Suite and the Crown Loft Suite. Just got the e-mail that we got the CLS! We are so excited!

Congratulations!! What a trip that's going to be! And you get a good amount of lead time before Sunday, too! What did the minimum for CLS end up coming out to!?

It was $350 per person. Definitely worth it for us!

Put in a maximum bid of $250 each to upgrade from a large outside room to a junior suite on odyssey in November and won that. Then last month, got a $200 per person upgrade from a 1 bedroom grand suite to a 2-bedroom.  It was amazing.  My friend and I each had our own bedrooms and bathrooms.  It was like an apartment!
