WYB! Posted February 26, 2022 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2022 This will not effect most cruise travelers with 2 people in the cabin. "Solo guests cannot claim two dinners" As of 2022 January 19th, 2022, I didn't notice this before, but "Solo guests cannot claim two dinners" is what is printed on the back of the Platinum Level (and above) Specialty Dining vouchers. So to clarify, 2 people (1 at least platinum) can still use 1 voucher if they are in the same room. How the dining voucher was being used up until Jan 19th, 2022 was; solo platinum travels would find another solo platinum traveler and then together could double up their dining vouchers to cover 4 specialty dining meals. My understanding of the phrase "Solo guests cannot claim two dinners" is that "double" will no longer work. Going forward, if you are traveling in a group of 4 people (in 2 cabins with 2 people being platinum level or above), reserve each room with 1 platinum with 1 non platinum to maximize the voucher's benefits. (Once on board, you don't have to physically stay in that cabin (1 platinum with 1 non platinum), just make it that way on paper). Stay positive and safe travels, - WYB
julig22 Posted February 26, 2022 #2 Share Posted February 26, 2022 I interpret that to mean that you can't use the voucher 2 times, for a total of 4 dinners. Nothing changed, just clarification because some solo cruisers were trying to double up, dining solo 4 times. It's still 1 voucher per stateroom, to be used at 1 meal, for up to 2 people as far as I know (but then again, I didn't try to share on my current cruise....)
Rare KeithJenner Posted February 26, 2022 #3 Share Posted February 26, 2022 It certainly isn’t clear, but I think that I agree with julig22 that it is probably a clarification of the existing rules rather than a new restriction.

Doesn't this mean that my key card would only get me into my neighbor's room?

I was on the 2/5/22 Escape as a solo Platinum cruiser. I used one voucher for me and a non-Platinum friend for 2 meals in Moderno and the 2nd voucher for me and same friend for 2 meals in Cagney's. I could not, as a solo cruiser, get 4 meals for myself alone. 2

With the permission of the people booked in that room, apparently so. It isn't something I have ever done, but there are lots of reports of this. Many rooms booked in these situations are families.

This is a very interesting statement and clearly is in need of clarification. But if you turn up with a "guest" how will anyone in the dining room know that you are a solo unless you have a "solo" room. There are of course two types of solo, those in a "solo room" paying less than a solo in a "normal room" paying double. I presume that NCL's new regulation means that a solo in a "solo" room take a guest but that a solo in a "normal" room can as has been the norm in the past. Typical inability of NCL to understand what happens on a cruise ship!!! They are still not employing a cynic who will examine every change of policy with a jaundiced eye!!

A number of years ago, I travelled with my niece and her friend. I was picking up the tab. I was in a cabin solo and they shared a second cabin. The CAS billing rules have changed but it was financially beneficial at the time to book my niece in my room and her friend in a solo cabin. Obviously, that was never going to be the plan so we got my niece a key for the other room. IIRC she just used the key for "my room" for anything requiring billing. So yes, you can get a key to a room other than your own, with the consent of the person/people in the other room.

(so $40/day per cabin 😮 ) mom got an inside room (no solo supplement) and turned down the drink package. once onboard, went to guest services. got a room key to mom's room and mom got a key to my room. i lived in her inside room, and mom stayed with sister Edited February 27, 2022 by fstuff1
