What If my wife doesn’t go?

You will make up those $20 as soon as you walk by the first bar/store/spa/casino and don’t have to swipe your card to purchase something that she would’ve wanted.

Seriously, I’ve only taken one cruise solo, without the wife, and I must admit that it was wonderful. I love her til death do us part, and I’d much rather sail with her, but going on a cruise by myself and calling all the shots was awesome. I’d say, go for it as long as she’s cool with it. The $20 that you may loose is completely negligible.

I’m getting crazy $20 offers.  Wife isn’t ready to cruise yet but I am.  If I book her but she doesn’t show am I just out her $20?

I got a $0 offer for a 4 day cruise on Valor and booked without my DH - he's too busy getting his hothouse up and running for garden season. I did have to pay the "taxes, fees and port expenses" plus pre-paid gratuities but only for 1 person. So for $139.82 I get someone else to cook and clean for me and I get to read a book, go to shows, sit by the pool, eat whenever. I'm Good!!

I'm sure you'd pay the "Single Supplement" - so $40. But you'd still only pay the fees and gratuities for one person.

Hope you have a good cruise if you do go.

I booked a balcony on a Carnival ship for 1 guest at a ridiculously low rate (for a balcony) but I still had to pay for two people. I even took advantage of a suite upgrade offer later and ended up paying LESS than the per person price for the same room type now. I say take that $20x2 rate! My better half did not mind at all. He is saving up time off for our Panama cruise next year. I am looking forward to some much needed me-time after two years of both of us working from home full time

The taxes/port fees as well as gratuities would be more for 2 guests compared to selecting a room for 1 guest. If she did not go on the cruise, I am not positive if the extra $$$ spent on the taxes/port fees and gratuities are refunded (maybe a more season cruiser could weigh in on that). The other potential option would be to book as 1 and perhaps be able to add her to the booking (if you talk her into it). I believe the room rate you booked at would be available for a second guest and then at that point you would pay for the extra port fees/taxes, etc.
