How can I get a Drinks On Us card for the casino?

Recommended Posts

I recently had a promo which included the DOU card but the promo I am currently booked with does not include it. I’m wondering if there’s a way I can obtain the card once onboard. Is it possible that a casino host might be willing to just give me the card? How strict are they regarding the giving out of these cards? Thanks in advance.

You might get a free drink from the casino host but never the DOU card.  The only way to get it is by gambling.  Depending on the length of the cruise, you will have to get either 1000 or 1500 points to get the card.  For every $2.50 spent, you will get 1 point.  Let's say you put $10 into a slot machine.  First pull, you are lucky and hit a $100 payout.  Now play that $100.  You now have 40 points but you have only spent $10 of your original money.  Hope this helps.

You need to book a rate that includes DOU in order to get it when boarding without the play requirement.  It would be no different than asking for an OBC because another rate code provided one.  With that said you may be able to change to the rate that includes it pre-cruise depending on what rate your booked at and if Carnival will allow the change.

You can earn a DOU "card" (card is for show, your foilo is coded) by getting 1500 points in the casino (1000 points on short cruises).

Exactly.  On the cruises I have been on in the last few months, there was a scrolling message on the slot specifying 1000/1500 to earn free drinks while playing.  Keep an eye on your points, as soon as you cross that threshold, your receipts will show zero.

So if I'm doing the math correctly to get free drinks you have to spend $3750 of your money or of the casino's money (or combination there of, with the odds being mostly your money). That's the equivalent of a lot of Cheers packages.

Even when I do have DOU, it is often cheaper for me to take a break and go buy my own beverage than to wait for me to keep playing and wait for a server to fetch me one.

I think that is their goal in providing the DOU.

I don't think you will find very many people who go to the casino and gamble just to try an earn free drinks. If they do they are foolish! LOL. Gamblers are going to gamble and most I've talked to already have Cheers or DOU in the casino.

And while your math is correct, it isn't that simple. You don't lose on every pull of a slot machine.

And neither do you win on every pull. The odds are always in the house's favor in any casino and even more so on a cruise ship.

Never said you would win on every pull. Just saying that the $3,750 you stated is money played through the machine. Not what someone has spent out of their own pocket. And of course the odds are in the casino's favor. There would be no casino's if it wasn't.

And I believe that I acknowledged that the entire $3,750 wouldn't be your money in my original post. "...of your money or of the casino's money (or combination there of, with the odds being mostly your money)"

Yes, you did. I should have been more clear in my response. Got tied up with work and didn't finish my thought. The money played through the machine was in regards to where you said "That's the equivalent of a lot of Cheers packages." A person that reaches the DOU mark never really has $3,750 in hand (unless they were to win that amount or higher) so it's not like they could just go and buy Cheers with it.

This is correct. To me,  Drinks on us is a byproduct of gambling, not something as a stand-alone goal. It’s a nice perk, especially if you gamble enough to start getting offers.

If I were not a gambler, or liked to just play a little, I wouldn’t worry about it.

That makes more sense and that comment was made more tongue in cheek anyway.
