Dec 6th, flights to Madrid for the 2-day extension…

We will be interested in your experience. We are booked for the Madrid extension in May 2023. But we’re now leaning towards doing it on our own.

We would normally do it on our own, but we still had a balance on the FCV's, even after paying the cruise fare, and pre-paying DSC & SSBP. Didn't use Viking Air, as all flights are with BA, using points.

With only a couple of ports, it would be tough to book sufficient shore-ex to use the balance, so the Madrid extension was about the only way we wouldn't leave money on the table.

Do it on your own! (Unless you are planning on packing more luggage than you want to to handle on your own, in which case I can understand sticking with with the Viking extension). There is just so much to see and do in Madrid, why try to cram it all into a day and a half?? If you do it yourself, you could probably manage at least one more night in Madrid -- and yet another night would give you time to get to one of the cities outside of Madrid such as Toledo or Segovia (famous Roman aqueduct).

Thanks Andy and Peregrina. Yes Andy, you and Judi doing a pre extension makes sense now.

Peregrina we are first going to spend some time in Santiago and Isla de La Toja before going to Madrid. At the moment the plan is to spend 3 nights in Madrid before heading to Barcelona.  Although we have researched the Prado Museum and Segovia and Toledo, I think we would like to do something else, like the tapas bars, the tuk tuk, flamenco and possibly a private tour of the Royal Palace if there’s time.  We are currently packing for our Norway-Santorini trip and I don’t think either of us will ever pack lightly no matter how determined I am. But for us, luggage handling is the only benefit at the moment for doing the pre.
