Moondogy Posted April 25, 2022 #1 Share Posted April 25, 2022 I was thinking of adding some more OBC to my cruise so DW wouldn't have to worry if she got a little carried away. When I when to my cruise and click on the OBC tab I see this message "Onboard Credits cannot exceed $1,500 per booking. Review confirmed packages" When the link is clicked it shows the drink package price, wifi price and SD prices..... Are they now limiting us on this too?? Alwaysmorecruising Posted April 25, 2022 #2 Share Posted April 25, 2022 Could be to prevent any kind of "money laundering" issues. Not saying you would 🙂 but it's a possible explanation. Of course, I'm no expert so you can ignore me. 😄
skynight Posted April 25, 2022 #3 Share Posted April 25, 2022 While it may sound reasonable to limit Princess & shareholder provided OBC, it sounds unreasonable to limit passenger purchased OBC. Could this be just another of the numerous issues with the medallion app? There are so many it's hard to even keep track of them. I also don't see any connection between OBC and packages included in the fare or purchased. Is Princess now saying that the value of a purchased fare package is really part of OBC? Sounds like a flimsy policy. Work around. Deposit whatever amount you want at passenger services once on board.

cruisingrob21 Posted April 25, 2022 #5 Share Posted April 25, 2022 My guess is they know pretty much how much the average cruiser spends, and probably how much on average their CC members each individually spend. Obviously, they want you to spend MORE than onboard credit because it takes time to refund the difference. Purchased OBC is fully refundable and, at best, requires someone at Princess to initiate a transfer to refund the unused amount into a check which is then sent to the traveler if the amount is over $25. At worst, this could be a way to internationally launder money for something nefarious/illegal. I think that's why there is a $1500 limit and its probably dependent on the voyage length. These are just my suppositions.
Rare cruzin4us Posted April 25, 2022 #6 Share Posted April 25, 2022 I saw this today and wondered why? Makes no sense to me.
Moondogy Posted April 25, 2022 Author #7 Share Posted April 25, 2022 But if click the link to review the included packages it's as if its saying that also counts to you what can have.
sirclean Posted April 25, 2022 #8 Share Posted April 25, 2022 someone's first thought was 'money laundering' by a passenger. My first thoughts were 'internal fraud control' ... less problem for crew to keep track of... My other thought was $1500 is more than enough! However, if you knew you wanted to partake of the jewelry stores, then it would not be! however, there are other options. there are Princess Gift Cards, or Visa Gift Cards. (Does anyone use Traveler's checks anymore?)
STREETKING Posted April 25, 2022 #9 Share Posted April 25, 2022 I also seen this yesterday, although I don't think the $1500 limit included the cost of packages that Princess includes in their "Best Fare Package" . I was trying to add $500 worth of Casino credits, those for some reason weren't available so I just added $500 to my shipboard account, which put me over $2000 if the Best Value package was included. I'm still wondering what happened to the availability to purchase casino credits. Maybe to close to sailing date, possibly? We depart 4/30, on the Ruby Princess.
Cuedon Posted April 25, 2022 #10 Share Posted April 25, 2022 Princess GCs are an awkward option for larger quantities too; each processed onboard can take multiple minutes, and a lot of vendors cap the denomination at 500... Direct from Princess appears to be 2000 though. I have things months out and still can't prepay casino credits either... Looks like they dumped that option entirely. STREETKING Posted April 25, 2022 #11 Share Posted April 25, 2022 That's what I was wondering, not too long ago there was an availability to purchase them and last week I noticed they were gone. I thought possibly because the sailing date was so close , although that didn't make much sense.

Could also be that Carnival Corp. wishes to limit Princess' liabilities in case they have to shut Princess down?
jebhoward3 Posted April 25, 2022 #13 Share Posted April 25, 2022 My OBC from travel agency is more than double that amount for our cruise next spring. So will we get that OBC or what will happen to the overage amount?
Rare cruzin4us Posted April 26, 2022 #14 Share Posted April 26, 2022 Maybe it's a way for Princess to encourage you to buy a drink package, etc. Because $1500 for a 15 day cruise to Hawaii isn't going to cut it for my husband and I in the casino. Maybe they are doing us a favor, because I'm not traveling with a was of cash.

You can still sign it to the room, as long as you're a fairly modest player; normal limits are 3k/day, up to something like 20k/voyage. If you want to go bigger than that, you'll need to either run cash advances/onboard ATM (Expensive...), save up over multiple days, bring cash, clear it beforehand with the casino department, or be on a casino voyage (5k/day, up to some limit I don't recall). Or if it is a 30 day cruise..... of course those could be broken down to B2B's which brings up another question, is it $1500 each cruise, even if it is a 2 or 3 day?
