fossilraf Posted May 20, 2022 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2022 I am a solo traveler who is severely hearing impaired and need to lip read. I have a button badge to wear which says "I am Deaf, I need to Lip Read" but people don't seem to comprehend that I actually do need to. As masks seem to be here to stay for a while has anyone in a similar situation any advice for me apart from toting a pen and pad to offer them. 😉 I already have organized the "deaf assistance package so it is more about interacting with people. Rare Essiesmom Posted May 21, 2022 #2 Share Posted May 21, 2022 I know it may seem tacky, but you might look into getting masks made with something like ‘I am deaf, I need to read your lips’ on them. I realize it doesn’t solve your problem…. EM
1025cruise Posted May 21, 2022 #3 Share Posted May 21, 2022 Unfortunately, tote the pen and paper. If someone doesn't get it, point to the pin. Odds are they might not have seen it. The crew on the ship will probably not be able to lower their masks for you to lip read.
