A Canadian takes on a B4B on Oasis 6/5/22 - 7/1/22

Recommended Posts

I want to send a huge apology to those that were following along that I have not posted in so long!!  I got super busy with work and then in the evenings was having difficulties getting onto Cruise Critics so I kind of gave up for a bit.  I promise to do better this week!

The turn over day last week (6/17/22) was a bit of a poop show.  They had a big problem getting the B2Bers cards to work and several of us had to wait in the theatre while they printed us new cards.  We continued to have card issues throughout the day and had to have our cards replaced 2-3 times each on Day 1.  We ended up having to wait almost 2 hours that evening to get into our cabin because either the cards failed or the door lock had an issue, we were not really able to get an answer on what the final cause was.

Throughout the week we had a couple challenges that we have never really experienced before. For some reason, we kept getting calls that there was no credit card tied to our account even though I gave it at check in on the B2b day. I assume the issue was tied to the card problems on Day 1.  I checked the app and sure enough it said we were both cash.  I went to guest services again and they could not figure out what was going on as they could see my card attached.  I continued to get a few calls over the next day or so until they eventually fixed whatever the issue was.

The most annoying thing was tied to the laundry.  We sent laundry away early in the week and got it free as normal.  We sent our second bag later in the week and they charged us $24.99.  Guest services tried to tell my husband that D+ only qualify for $10 off and that "it is what it is" and we should not have gotten the bag free earlier in the week so he should consider himself lucky.  He pointed out that we have gotten at least 1 free bag of laundry each week since boarding on the 5th and on just about every cruise since being D+, so that must be alot of luck.  He gave up and came to find me.  I immediately looked at the pic I had taken of the D+ letter we got in the cabin at boarding to make sure the coupons had not changed and it still listed the free bag.  Sure enough it was.  I went to guest services and spoke to the person working the line.  He took my cabin number, saw I was D+, said we were right and he would fix it.  The next morning it was still not fixed so Paul went down again.  The rep I had spoken to did not do anything to clear the charge.  Guest Services again tried to tell Paul again that we do not qualify for the free bag.  He eventually spoke to someone who knew the D+ benefits and they fixed it.  In the end it was about 24 hours from his first trip to the desk to when it was finally resolved.  Annoying but glad it was finally resolved.

We ended up getting a couple bottles of wine sent to our cabin over the week.  I assume it was related to these issues we had.  I am not really a merlot drinker but I never turn down free booze so I will take them home and add them to the wine rack for guests or cooking 🙂

Other than that, we had a great cruise last week.  I took a 1/2 day for Coco Cay and we had a great day on the beach.  We were in port with the Enchantment and it felt incredibly busy.  We usually have no issue finding a chair behind the pool bar in the more shaded area but there were no chairs to be had anywhere near Oasis Lagoon and it took us quite awhile to find a couple in the shade on the beach. I think we ended up at Chill Beach in front of the buffet area.  I listened to my audio book and dozed.  It was lovely.

I will say it is always shocking to see how much bigger the Oasis class is compared to other ships.  I have been on the Empress once but other wise have not been on anything smaller with RCL than the Freedom class.  Lately we have been on either Quantum or Oasis class.  I really need to get out there and try the other classes!

Glad everything is okay! Fully understand that cruise critic posting is not top priority 😊

We were on the Oasis 6/10/22 to 6/17/22. We had a nice time, but the ship seemed very crowded. I guess we were spoiled after doing a few sailings at 50 percent capacity.

We are on the Oasis again doing a B2B 09/25/22 and 10/02/22…in the same cabin.

I think this is your last week onboard…enjoy!!!

We moved to a Central Park Balcony on the 17th.  I had heard about the extended balconies on some of them and knew 11229 was one of them so I snapped it up when I saw it was available at booking.  I was then able to get it for the 2th too.  This balcony is huge as part of it is in front of what I assume is a storage space.  There is a bit of noise from the area in the morning – I assume it is where they either store the cleaning trolleys or is where the luggage elevators are.  Either way it does not matter to us as we have to get up early to work anyway so it did not prevent us from sleeping.  We are on deck 11 and can hear the music from the pool deck which can be annoying when on a conference call but is not too bad most times.

We have the same cabin this week as well as the one next to it so we should have an even bigger balcony if our cabin steward is able to open the divider to us.  The cabins are not adjoining once again but we will take the double pts (actually 4x) and probably use it for our suitcases 😊

The part with the 2 loungers is the extra space.  I think it is actually bigger than the "regular" part.

We got Burnt Ends, the 1/2 Chicken, and Ribs.  For sides we got baked beans and Mac & Cheese.  For dessert I asked for cornbread instead of the Brookie or Banana dream.  It was all very good but we ate way too much and did not even finish it all!  I think my favourite was the chicken. The rub is very good!

Thanks!  Yes this is our last cruise of this set. We are back for another couple of B3Bs on 8/21/22 out of Bayonne and then again 11/13/22 out of Miami.  Those are the last cruises we have booked at the moment and the last of our Covid rebookings.  We need to start planning again 🙂

I forgot to mention that I hosted a few more Slot pulls last week.

I had a $20 one of Day 2 at noon. We had 56 partipants and we each walked away with $27.  On Day 2 at 3:30, I held a $50 one.  We had 16 paticpants and we walked about with $92 each thanks to a nice $1148 Gold Spin hit by one of the partipants.

I decided to throw in another $50 pull on Wednesday.  We had 11 participants and we landed a big ole goose egg as we played until we hit $0. Maybe we should have stopped on Saturday, but it was still fun! 🤣

So I have been working away on a chair in the Solarium.  I am also listening to an audio book with my Bose noise cancelling headphones on Quiet so cannot really hear the announcements.  I heard the captain sound the horn awhile ago (can't miss that) and the ship started to chug a little while later.  It felt like we were moving, but I thought "That cannot be right" because sail away is not for hours and continued working.  Sure enough I look up 30 minutes later and we are no longer where we were and were in motion.

Apparently there was a big container ship that needed to get out and could not get around us so we had to move in order to make room.  We are pulling back into the terminal now.

Hopefully this does not delay folk's embarkation too long!

I forgot to mention that turn over was much easier today.  There were alot less people.  We had to meet at 8AM in the theatre.  We were running a little late and got a call at 8:08AM as we were heading out the door asking us to get to the theatre ASAP.  By that time on the other sailings, we were still in a line outside the theatre.

When we arrived the customs officer checked our passport, the RCL employee had us scan our old pass and then we went to the table to get our new ones.  We sat down and a rep came around to check us in & ensure our credit card and photo were loaded.  Then another rep came around and made sure our health questionaire was completed (they were).  We were out of there by 9:15.  It would have been alot earlier but we had to wait for 5 stragglers to get off the ship.  I heard the call come in that disembarkation was complete and they immediately started letting us out.  Paul and I were the 2nd & 3rd people out of the theatre. They did not seem to be having a recurrence of the card problem from last week so hopefully that means are seapass issues are behind us!

Cabins were read about 30

minutes ago but they just made the announcement.  I stupidly forgot to flip the Do not disturb sign so did not get the amenities in the cabin, but the docs were in the door.  Hopefully I have Linton a bit of a break.

These are the docs from the cabin.

Diamond Plus info - laundry still says free bag for 5+ nights. Maybe they were confusing the 2 laundry coupons last week?

First of all, those turnaround day issues and the laundry thing would have really ticked me off, too.  Glad that they are now behind you.

Second of all:  I'm not sure I would even cook with the Beach Kite.  And ONLY cook with the St Martin.  DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRINK EITHER ONE.  Now, if you are invited to the home of someone whom you cannot stand, take it and give it to them.  😄

Thank you for the warning!  Maybe they were trying to punish me for being a squeaky wheel.

I can, however, think of some folks I could use it for… 😂

I am not sure if anyone else has noticed the seapass cards have been terrible recently.  We had a cruise a few months ago where I had to get a new one everyday because the label kept peeling off.  I have had to get a few replaced on these cruises because of that as well.

They told me last week they were supposed to be getting a new key and it appears they have.  The ones for this week have the strip on the back again.   hopefully they hold up better?

Last weeks seapass

Hmmm… We just won name that Tune: Songs with color in a full Schooner Bar and the prize was one thing of zipper pulls for our team of 2. They could have at least thrown a highlighter our way 😂

The Schooner performer for the first 3 cruisers was Ventzi from North Dakota.  He was one of the best ones we have seen onboard.  He left on Friday to head home.  He will be starting on the Explorer  in mid July.  If you are ever on a cruise with him definitely check him out!! https://www.facebook.com/88Keys2Happiness

The bar-b-que is our go to place for lunch on day one. It's not crowded at all and you don't have to deal with WJ crowds. It's reasonable in price with big portions.

Not sure what is going on but they seem to be having a major issue with the public washrooms tonight.  The one by the Casino/MDR on Deck 4 has had a maintenance sign on it for over an hour.  Finally gave up and walked to deck 5, same thing.  Deck 6, same.  I had to go all the way to my cabin to use the restroom!!

After a few hours,  the washroom near casino finally opened.  I assume the others did as well but did not check them.  This is what was waiting for me in the 1st stall. Obviously they were having some plumbing issues and they forgot to put the plate back up…
