bguppies Posted June 4, 2022 #3 Share Posted June 4, 2022 Grand Cayman, Belize, Roatan or even Cozumel if any of them are on your cruise. Found great snokeling before at all 4. Best I've heard tallked of in Costa Maya is some coral area by the lighthouse. Haven't personally tried it out.
bguppies Posted June 5, 2022 #4 Share Posted June 5, 2022 On You Tube try searching : The Best beach for snorkeling in Mahahual costa maya mexico. The video is by NTN treasure hunter and shows the reef area by the lighthouse with drone footage. I'd link it for you but You Tube dooesn't work with either browser on my computer.

The reef is what keeps the bay shallow, calm and protected. It is quite a way out from most of the bay and too far for most people to walk or swim to which is why a boat is usually recommended. @mitsugirly has been a fan of Blue Kay in the past, which is the beach club furthest down and fairly close to the lighthouse and has several old snorkeling reviews on her blog. However cheerleaders of Blue Kay do not give favorable reports since cruising resumed. I think Mahahual is in a rebuilding phase and hopefully will recover but we have also been disappointed in our go-to location and are currently seeking pastures new.
Rare crewsweeper Posted June 6, 2022 #6 Share Posted June 6, 2022 As others point out, there's no iron shore near the beach in Costa Maya. But off shore, you're right there for the great barrier reef. Several dive shops offer snorkeling excursions.
lifes-a-beach Posted June 10, 2022 #7 Share Posted June 10, 2022 We went with these folks in March. http://gypseadivers.com/ Good service. Water was pretty rough but they made the best of it. We have our own gear so I can't comment on that.
