"Thanks for generously sharing your time at sea with everyone at Cruise Critic!" cruzin4us was awarded the badge '"Live from...."' We thought this day would never get here! We took Southwest from San Diego to San Francisco the day prior to sailing. Our flight was on time, and we had a beautiful flight up the coast of California. We caught an Uber from SFO to our hotel (Columbus Motor Inn) which is about 5 blocks give or take from Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 27. The Uber cost us $37.97 which we found to be fairly reasonable. I'm sure we could have found a cheaper ride, but we rode in comfort in a RAV4, so all is good. We are staying at the Columbus Motor Inn which cost us $218.55. For San Francisco standards, it's inexpensive and the hotel is nice and the bed is comfy. We booked directly which we found to be the cheapest rates. It's clean, has a nice bathroom and we are happy with our choice. Since we got up early, we are going to take a nap and then go find a nice place to eat. There are numerous choices around the hotel. After dinner, I'll let you know where we decided to eat. We've been to SF many times before, so we aren't doing a bunch of sightseeing this trip. We just wanted to get here a day early to avoid airline delays, etc. I'll try to post more along the way, but I've heard the wifi is pretty sporadic, so anyone else is free to hijack this thread with pictures/posts. I also won't be taking pictures of the patters, so if anyone wants to do that, please feel free. Edited June 8, 2022 by cruzin4us

Rare cruzin4us Posted June 8, 2022 Author #4 Share Posted June 8, 2022 (edited) Well, we were starved and way to lazy to unpack our suitcases so we decided to order in. We used Uber Eats and ordered from The Italian Homemade Company https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-italian-homemade-company-san-francisco-6. The food came in 15-20 minutes but they didn't include any silverware.....LOL. Luckily the housekeeper right outside our door was able to grab us some. The meal was amazingly good. We can see Coit Tower and Saints Peters and Paul Church. Just maybe we will be able to see the Ruby coming into port tomorrow morning. The room is a little on the noisy side (traffic) but after I fall asleep I won't care. I forgot how little open space there is in SF. They have electric transportation buses that run constantly. Wish I had a bunch of good photos of SF, but we are beat and going to have an early night so we are bright eyed and bushy tailed for tomorrow. Mummo Posted June 9, 2022 #7 Share Posted June 9, 2022 That food makes my mouth water. Yum! We always try to eat light before we go on a cruise, so dinner tonight was canned peaches and cottage cheese. I want what YOU had! We were both born in S.F., so some of the photos you posted brought back memories. Can't wait until Tomorrow! (but I guess I'll have to.)

We've been eating light too, but our vacation started today (plus we hadn't eaten all day). My DH went to SF State many moons ago. We were bad tourists. We got to the room and crashed. All the pics were either taken from the Uber car or from our balcony facing Columbus St.

zentraveler Posted June 9, 2022 #10 Share Posted June 9, 2022 Also, would be grateful for some comments on the weather. We are not on the Ruby until 7/19 but still interested in outdoor weather and how they keep the temperature on the ship for packing purposes!
Rare cruzin4us Posted June 9, 2022 Author #11 Share Posted June 9, 2022 (edited) It's 6:00 in the morning on embarkation day in San Francisco. We slept like babies, and our bed was really comfortable. San Francisco in the early morning is so nice and quiet. We had a beautiful sunrise and there was no cars (for the most part) on the street. We did see this little white car with a strange looking roof. According to our Uber driver, the cars are mapping the street so eventually they will have unmanned cars driving around. Not sure how I feel about that.... It's time to pack up our bags, grab a quick bite to eat and then head to the pier. We are in group A so we get to board around 11:00 if all goes well. Rare Cruise Raider Posted June 9, 2022 #15 Share Posted June 9, 2022 We will be joining you there now that all our tests came back negative. Two of us didn't even get our results until late last night. Would hate to go all the way down to the pier only to find out we couldn't travel ... not so much for me because I had documentation of previous recovery and took a home test just to make sure I wasn't still positive. My neighbor's mom was the one we were worried about but that's all in the past now as she also got her results in last night. I heard on the news that the BART trains were down this morning but slowly recovering from the system wide shut down due to a computer failure. Hope this doesn't impact anybody's arrival. I know the Bay Bridge was bumper to bumper early this morning because of it. Hopefully, all those that plan on parking have already reserved a space. Looks like we are going to have beautiful weather over in the City today. See you all onboard.
Rare cruzin4us Posted June 9, 2022 Author #16 Share Posted June 9, 2022 The weather here in San Francisco at 8:30 in the morning is nice. DH is wearing shorts and a short sleeve shirt. I'm in capris and shirt....no jacket/sweater required at this point. We walked a short distance from our hotel to grab a bite to eat. We found a nice little soulful place called Pat's Cafe. DH ordered the oatmeal and I ordered the crepes with fresh fruit. The cappuccino was really good. Now to pack up the last of our stuff and hurry up and wait until we leave for the pier.....the excitement mounts.
Rare cruzin4us Posted June 9, 2022 Author #17 Share Posted June 9, 2022 Took an Uber to Pier 27 and arrived about 10 am. The line was just starting and people were still getting off the ship. It was a little chilly due to the breeze. Masks are required when entering the terminal. They started checking us in about 10:30 and now we are in the Platinum and Elite holding area. We were told we would begin boarding at 11:30, but the just announced it will be a 15 min delay. It’s getting crowded now.

L11 Posted June 9, 2022 #21 Share Posted June 9, 2022 We are also on this cruise. You got a killer good deal at your hotel. I don't even want to tell you what we paid, though it had the real advantage of being within walking distance of Fisherman's Wharf and last night's restaurant (Scoma's) where we had a reunion with friends we had not seen in 20 years. Very special night. This morning, we arrived at pier 27 by taxi about 10:30 and were onboard by noon. Luggage has arrived and we are unpacked and relaxing. Life is good! If I am not mistaken, you are casino people too. Are you participating in the slot tournament? Maybe I will see you there. Linda
zentraveler Posted June 9, 2022 #22 Share Posted June 9, 2022 Thanks to all of you posting from your cruise. We have our first Princess cruise (not first cruise, but first one on Princess) coming up July 19 and would love to hear comments about your cabins, interesting places to hang out on sea days (library?), what the laundromats are like etc. In short, any heads up on anything you would have like to know before you got there. Have fun all of you and thanks for bringing us along!
