Gratuity Added to Bottle Wine Purchase with PBP?

I apologize if this topic has been covered.  I understand that one of the benefits of the PBP is 20% off the price of a bottle of wine, with no added corkage fee.  Am I correct in assuming that 20% gratuity is added in this scenario?  I realize that there are many supply shortages onboard but I would like to have all of the facts in case I come across an interesting bottle.  TIA 😊

Corkage only applies to bottles you bring on board with you.

there would never be corkage on a bottle you purchase on board

Correct, no corkage fee on bottles purchased onboard.  I’m really just trying to compare apples to apples now that bottles brought onboard at embarkation no longer incur a corkage fee with the PBP.  If I understand correctly, these are the points to ponder:

a) the 20% discount is equal to 20% gratuity, so the price you see is the price you pay;

b) multiple reports of supply issues making many wines unavailable;

c) no corkage fee on bottles brought onboard with PBP;

d) packing and protecting bottles of wine for embarkation can be a hassle.

Maybe I should just take my chances with the available wines by the glass…

Maybe not quite.  The gratuity is paid on the actual price you pay, after discount???

Thus, for $100 bottle of wine:

Cost: $80 ($100 - 20%).

Gratuity: $16 (20% of $80)

Total Cost To You: $96 (80$ + $16)

Any of this make sense?

If we are sailing from the US we buy wine in the port city, use a bubble wrap wine bottle sleeve and carry it on.  It isn’t hassle particularly since you can go to your cabin as on as you board and drop off any carry-on items.

We generally only carry wine on when we are celebrating a special occasion and want a particular wine.

Clearly morning math (without enough coffee) is not my strong suit!  Thanks for the clarification 😄
