Current Condition of Grand Princess

Recommended Posts

We were on Grand April 4, 15 day Hawaii in aft Vista suite D737.  We rarely needed to leave the cabin, but did enjoy Club Class dining several times for both lunch and dinner.  Ship as noted above is in good shape, we had no issues.  Good overall service, room service via the Medallion App worked 90% of the time, beats calling.  We managed to get a Chef's Table but only by asking DRO directly.  Held in Crown Grill, no galley tour.

They had a couple of inches of water that remained along the far side of the balcony floor the entire cruise.  Would soak their shoes if they stood on it.

It would be interesting to find out if they reported this to their steward/Housekeeping supervisor.  Did they know where the water was coming from?

Window Suite in March  have air conditioner that would not turn off.   Could not / would not fix it.   Froze in the stateroom at night. Two thermostats did not work.   Guess they were waiting for drydock.   Other then that we enjoyed the ship. I guess it was cheaper for them to compensate us a few hundred dollars.

That was so easy to fix.

Just plug the AC outlet with a couple of hand towels.

You were lucky you didn't need more air conditioning. Then it's no so easy to remedy.

Did they ever let you know what was causing "the bumps in the night"?  Good detective work (timing the bumps).  Always good to have quantitative data.  Sorry you had to stay up to record bumps.

We did not find out, the head of housekeeping (who sat there to hear the bumps) said it may have been something with the lifeboats below us.  They had conducted a "drill" a number of days before and maybe something was not reset correctly. There was a note in our cabin the last night that there would be maintenance going on our balcony fro 8 to noon on our disembarkation day.

Timing the bumps was something we had to do.  Otherwise they would send someone up and unless they sat there more than 15 minutes they likely wouldn't hear it.  The look on the face of the supervisor when it went off finally was priceless.

Well, that is certainly a bummer! I wonder what caused it? What deck and cabin number if you remember.

Well this was us that had the water, in addition to the bumps problem.  What happens on the Grand is that there are no openings on the floor of the balcony - We were in D425, which is at the end of the group of cabins so I think the balconies sloped our way.  They know there are issues with the balconies not draining since there was a mat similar to a bar mat.  However the water on our balcony was deeper than the 1" mat.  We thought about asking for them remove it somehow but we were getting so much rain it would have been futile.

We had an annoying banging from our balcony (D630) that no one else could hear during the few minutes they could spend listening.  We investigated ourselves and discovered the balcony divider wasn’t tightened properly after opening them for cleaning on turnaround day.  Maintenance came quickly and inserted a wooden wedge.  Problem solved.

We were in the cabin next to Dar & Bob (D423) and we could hear the loud banging in our cabin also, just not as badly as in theirs.  Definitely was not a balcony divider and it happened in a very regular cycle.  You could time it.
