Colo Cruiser Posted December 7, 2014 #31 Share Posted December 7, 2014 A quick way to see the designation is on the Princess website. Go to ships and when you pick a particular ship look in the web address bar and the 2 letter designation will be there.

nukesubsailor Posted June 1, 2017 #38 Share Posted June 1, 2017 Then there might be some Cruise Critic forum readers who would prefer that posters would not risk causing confusion by using abbreviations. They may think that anyone who doesn't have time to type out the full word, doesn't have time to be posting on a non-essential forum.
dmwnc1959 Posted June 3, 2017 #39 Share Posted June 3, 2017 Then there might be some Cruise Critic forum readers who would prefer that posters would not risk causing confusion by using abbreviations. They may think that anyone who doesn't have time to type out the full word, doesn't have time to be posting on a non-essential forum. I was on a Broadway forum recently, the discussion was on shows which we thought were our Favorite Flops, and long time posters were referencing show titles by abbreviations (DOTV instead of Dance of the Vampires) and not the shows full names. As a relative newcomer it was way more than confusing to me. I think that we forget not all of us here on the Princess Cruises Forum have the names and two-letter codes memorized by heart. I certainly don't. I agree that if you don't have time to type out the ships correct name, or at least the main part that's recognizable (i.e. Coral, Island, Regal, Diamond, etc.) don't bother. You'll just end up having someone else doing your job for you because you'll mistakenly call the Caribbean Princess "CP", or we'll all be confused while we wait for you to sort it out for us.

It isn't difficult (especially since I use an actual keyboard rather than my phone). However, I do sometimes use the abbreviations but it is generally in a thread that is already filled with the abbreviation or in order to correct someones incorrect abbreviation. I don't correct them to be a turd but it is important if you are going to use the abbreviation to use the right one since many of the "obvious" abbreviations don't actually refer to the ship being referenced which, of course, is another great reason to use the actual name of the ship. Why memorize and reuse dumb codes? NP and AP? If we just use Golden or Grand, people will actually know what we mean. Jim

beckntom Posted November 10, 2018 #45 Share Posted November 10, 2018 Thanks, Globaliser. I've been wondering what the designator would be for the Enchanted Princess. "EX" never occurred to me.
nukesubsailor Posted November 10, 2018 #46 Share Posted November 10, 2018 Be considerate of others who may not know the meaning of all the abbreviations. Also some abbreviations may have multiple meanings. For example: CC has been used to mean Club Class, Captain's Circle, or credit card. If you don't have time to type out the whole word----do you really have time to be on this board?
