Rookie question about room service

Hi everyone,

 

I leave in a few weeks for a Med cruise on the Gem, and I'm super excited.  I have a rookie question about room service.  For the free continental breakfast room service, is it customary to tip?  If so, how much does one typically give?  Is $3-$5 enough, too much?  Thanks in advance for your insight! ☕🥐

I would give the guy (or gal) who brings your breakfast a little something.  They are on the ships for months and sometimes don't even know where they are.  A couple of dollars or euros.

On a European itinerary I'd consider giving cash tips in Euros or the predominant currency for the countries visited on the itinerary, that way the crew member doesn't need to exchange it if they go on shore and want to spend it.

The equivalent of $3+ USD is what we tip room service for the complimentary breakfast.

$5 is what we tip room service and if we order a large amount for lunch then we tip about $7-$8

We tip $3 to $5 (or euros when sailing in Europe) depending on which of us answers the door.  (I worked as a waitress for a while so I'm a better tipper than DH, lol.)

Just tip with US dollars.

That said, I have never tipped for the continental breakfast on NCL.

Tip in US Dollars, the currency of the ship for the crew (regardless of location). While the crew is now allowed off the ship in some ports, many (worked to death), stay on board.

Just so you hear the flip side - you don't actually need to tip. You've paid for them, or will, through your daily service charge. Of course you should feel free to tip if you'd like. If I were in your situation, I would not tip.

I also tip for room service as I look at as being above and beyond. Really, what is a coiple of bucks.

If someone is bringing something to my door, I’m tipping, food, pillows, iron… If I’m at a hotel, I’m tipping for room service on top of the room service fee, the person who brings my luggage, housekeeping for extra towels.

We ordered room service on our EPIC med cruise a few months ago on the day we had an early excursion. The problem was that there is no place to put the tray other than your bed in the Club Balcony Suites. There's just so little counter space. Even thought it was complimentary we didn't order again. Too much of a hassle to be worth it.
