Well, after all that, DH and I discussed the matter and decided to let him off the hook. Evidently, he had forgotten to add port charges, which he was going to cover. It was an excellent deal to begin with, so I have now emailed him back, telling him to go ahead and bill the correct (Azamara) amount. I’m sure that, going forward, he will scrutinize his quotes before sending them out!

That's alarming. On my first cruise, they come to over $1000. I've checked my documents and it clearly says the cruise price, no mention of any extras. I started with Azamara but my TA, who Azamara pointed me in the direction of, managed to knock a few hundred off the price, presumably from their commission. But nowhere near $1000. I'm in the UK with a pretty large cruise specialist TA so they better had be correct in what they have invoiced for. I suspect they are.

Has the policy changed.  I thought TA were not able to discount Azamara, but only give rebates or OBC.

He is most likely was giving up commission to reduce the price, not discounting

In the UK prices are always quoted including port taxes.

I’m not sure when pulling up a quote the agents here see the taxes.

This is how he explained it:  “The rate for the 2ndpassenger didn’t include the $489 non-commission fee, AKA port charges,  that Azamara adds to each passenger cost. “

In the Uk the rates would be fully inclusive. I know if I go onto Azamaras website and select the US $ pricing I see a cost then in smaller print a figure with a plus that is the port taxes and has to be added in. In the Uk if I select £ pricing it’s one figure no taxes

Perhaps a TA on this board could explain what he said, because I didn’t really understand it. When I did a mock booking, the port taxes and fees were $249.65 pp. , but it came to $489 higher total. So I think they TAs see the pricing differently than we do.

May I ask the cruise date?

In Australia the price(s) are shown over several lines :

Club Oceanview Stateroom

Cruise Fare                                                $4248AUD

Taxes & Fees

Taxes, Fees and Port Expenses             $729AUD

Cruise Total and Deposit

Cruise total for 2 guests                         $4977AUD

Cruise Deposit                                          $1200AUD

A great price for a Cat. 5 midships stateroom!

I would love to do the cruise again, but not yet ready for long haul flights.
