OBC question

I know you can cash out nonrefundable OBC onboard RCI in the casino but how and can you on Celebrity?

Wash it all through once, take your lumps on the ship's cut (or hey, you could win some!) and cash out your balance.  Roulette is about as close to even odds as you'll find, though a skilled craps player has a slight edge on house odds.

Not a gambler so how do I do that? I'll have $900 OBC on Eclipse.

On any ship, including Reflection, you can get promotional chips at the casino cashier, then play them at a table game. Whatever you win, you can cash out. We do roulette and so far always win something. My husband, who is a bigger better than I, cashed in about $300 OBC and won a total of a bit over $900 last cruise. I made about $130 on $150 OBC.

Place a series of small bets on even/odd or red/black.  You only get hurt on a 0 or 00 spin.  If traveling with someone, they can place the 'opposite' bet so you have both even/odd or red/black covered, though you may wish not to appear associated when doing this.

With two playing, you'll average a return of 35/37, and get about $851 of your money back.  Always bet the OBC chips.  Cash in the "real" ones when you're done.

How do I tell the difference between the chips ?

Let’s say I bet $10 on black any my wife bets $10 on red. So we are betting a total of $20.

Further assume the spin comes up red.

That means my wife leaves with $20 and I leave with $0. Using the strategy you suggest, it seems we could play all day and simply tread water and spend the day just trading dollars back and forth. Minus, of course, when we both lose when 0 or 00 come up. I cannot see how we would ever walk away as “winners”.

As you can tell, I’m not a gambler. What am I missing?

You take all of your OBC chips and play them all ONCE.  You take all of the 'real chip' winnings and place them into a separate pile.  Once you've run through all of your OBC chips, you cash out all of your 'real' chips.

Alternately, you can play as just one person and see whether you beat or lose to the house odds on a given day.  What you do NOT do is put all of your chips down at once as a solo.  That gives you slightly better than even odds of losing the whole thing or, slightly less than even odds of doubling your money.  Solo, you would want to make a longer series of smaller bets to get closer to the average odds.

I would like to know how to do this without doing any of the gambling steps. Any way to do that? Are the OBC chips different in some manner or fashion from regular chips to prevent one from buying chips with OBC then simply cashing out?

Ain't gonna happen with chips.  Chips received on OBC and 'promos' that cannot be directly cashed out are clearly marked.

Dunno how to make this any clearer, but I will try.

Your chips 'purchased' with OBC look different and hence are distinguishable.  You bet with those chips - eventually ALL of them.  None of them can be cashed in.

Whatever you win from those bets you get back in 'real' chips that you can cash in at the cage.

If your only objective is to convert non-refundable OBC to cash, you want to use the method that, on average, leaves the minimum $ with the house in the process.  For a skilled player, craps gives the best odds over time.  For the less skilled, roulette, played very conservatively, can leave you with the best chance of a good return.

Now I understand. All at one time. Got it.
Thanks!!!

Here's an attempt to make it clear for those of us who aren't regular gamblers.

When getting chips for OBC at the cashier cage, they give you chips that are clearly marked as PROMOTIONAL chips.  This is similar to the "free play" money you get on the slots on Royal -- you can play it, but you can't cash it in.... but you CAN cash in any winnings you get from the Free Play money.

So if you get PROMO chips at the cashier's cage, and you split them up between you and your roommate, you can go to the roulette table and you each put equal amounts (not the whole thing at once, as there is some risk involved) on opposing 50/50 bets.

Wife puts $100 in PROMO chips on ODDS.

Husband puts $100 in PROMO chips on EVENS.
The ball lands on an odd number.  Wife receives $200 in ACTUAL chips (not marked "promo"), and the roulette worker keeps both sets of $100 in PROMO chips.  Wife puts the $200 in regular chips aside.

Lather, rinse, repeat, until all the PROMO chips are gone.

Unless the ball lands on 0 or 00, either the wife or the husband will double their money on each play, and receive normal/regular chips in return.

When all the PROMO chips are gone, go back to the cashier and cash in the normal/regular chips for actual money.

(Alternately, if you know anyone who is gambling at table games anyway, you could trade them your promo chips for their actual chips, or they could "buy" your promo chips from you with plain old cash.  I'm guessing there are probably rules about buying chips from other players, though, so I would do such a transaction in private / away from cameras in public areas.}
