Bajasenora Posted August 21, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 21, 2022 We just booked a balcony cabin on deck 11. Does anybody have any pros or cons? Thank you
AKJonesy Posted August 22, 2022 #2 Share Posted August 22, 2022 You did not mention the ship, but in general: Cons: If seas are rough, there will be a lot more movement up there than the lower decks and toward the middle of the ship. Pros: Close to the gym, Crow's Nest, Lido Pool, and Lido Market
john2003 Posted August 22, 2022 #3 Share Posted August 22, 2022 I believe on some ships these aren't full verandas.
CruiserBruce Posted August 22, 2022 #4 Share Posted August 22, 2022 Just now, john2003 said: I believe on some ships these aren't full verandas. Agree. But as the OP didn't specify a ship, we can't give a full answer.

I answered your question in the Cabin Selection section, but did not mention that the balconies might be SLIGHTLY shallower than ones on decks 5,6,7,8... they are significantly shallower than the fore and aft balconys on Deck 4. Deck 4 is over the Promenade Deck, which can be handy, but the forward cabins are over the main theatre so beware! There are several photos of the balcony, thanks to @Vict0riann, here: https://halfacts.com/pinnacle-class/11044-nieuw-statendam/ [The preceding paragraphs apply to Pinnacle Ships, Koningsdam/Nieuw Statendam/Rotterdam.] ETA: I forgot that the Signature Class ships ALSO have balconies on the Observation Deck (11 on those ships), which is the SAME deck as the Crows Nest. They DO have VERY shallow balconies, sometimes called "Juliet Balconies". The ones on Eurodam are curved and may not have any furniture at all! See photos here with the desk chair sitting outside: https://halfacts.com/11001-eurodam/ The Nieuw Amsterdam's Deck 11 balconies are shallow but square and are shown with two upright chairs and a very small table, here: https://halfacts.com/11001-nieuw-amsterdam/ I also forgot to say: Welcome to Cruise Critic! crystalspin Posted August 23, 2022 #9 Share Posted August 23, 2022 Here are my comments to the OP from Cabin Selection Tips thread: "Assume you are on a Pinnacle Class Ship (Koningsdam, Nieuw Statendam, Rotterdam), as they are the ones that have balconies on the Sun (11) Deck. "Pros: one deck down from the Crows Nest/Exploration Cafe; two decks up from the Lido deck with pools, bars, and buffet. (Also the Spa if that is on your radar!) "Cons: cabins higher numbered than 11037/11038 on K'dam and NS, 11037/11040 on the Rotterdam, are beneath the uncarpeted "Retreat" and you may hear deck chairs being dragged around during the night (or day). I haven't heard that about these cabins in particular, but it is reported a LOT from cabins under the Lido pool areas. "Second Con: It's a long way to the Main Dining Room! But I figure the walks will do us good. "Have booked a cabin forward of 11038 on the K'dam for a 35-day cruise in 2024, so for us the pros outweigh the cons." As far as Signature Class ships, I would book Deck 11 on the Nieuw Amsterdam, but not the Eurodam. Not a big balcony user, but need at least a couple chairs!
