Hi. I realize weather is likely to be rainy and chilly. My question is for inside the ship. Will it be sensible to bring sweaters etc while on board? Thank you.

I have learned when travelling anywhere that you need to know yourself and be flexible.   It's impossible to predict what temperature different areas of a ship will be.  I am always too warm.  My husband is often chilly.  He can wear a big fleece sweatshirt indoors while I'm in short-sleeves.  Just be prepared with layers ... I'll bring along a cardigan to most places on the ship, just in case.    The kinds of clothing you bring for your shore excursions will serve you well when walking outside on the ship ... especially if she's underway.   Weather is more temperate on the West Coast.  Be warned that when we cruised Alaska several years ago it was very warm and never rained a drop  I remember sitting outside at a cafe and the sun was literally hot.  We had to buy a few polos and t-shrits ... I didn't get to wear many of my 'ensembles' on that trip!

I recommend posting this on the HAL forum (https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/103-holland-america-line/) and specify the ship you are sailing.  Hopefully someone with recent experience on that ship and itinerary can give you specifics.

Howdy @dianeh and welcome back to the Cruise Critic message boards! I see it has been a while since you have posted on the boards.

Thank you for your new thread on the Ask a Cruise Question forum! However, it is the forum for general questions regarding cruising. Your inquiry concerns a specific cruise line ship. It appears it is the Zuiderdam due to your other recent new thread regarding her drink prices and Happy Hour.

To help you out I have moved your thread to the Holland America Line forum where it will be on topic. The majority of your fellow Cruise Critic members that have sailed on Zuiderdam frequent this forum and can provide the feedback you need.

suggest you use the Follow feature on this thread or any other thread where you are interested in the new replies. That way you will not have to go looking to see if there are new replies on your Followed threads because they will come looking for you as notifications! If you need more info on how to do it, please click the following: How to: Follow Topics & Forums (Subscribed Threads/Forums Info)

Hope this will be helpful and glad to have you back aboard the Cruise Critic message boards!

Happy sails,

Host Kat
