Have quarantining venues changed?

I spent the morning in the medical facility. Tested positive.  Others had a similar cough to mine.

DW had a less harsh/loud cough and tested negative.

We are now in different cabins.

The Med cruise we were on in late March/April had about 90% masks usage.

This cruise is well less than 35 %.

I sympathize.  DH has similar issues.  If you're near him in the morning you would think he is sick but after about an hour or so it's much better.  It is definitely true that many people cough for many reasons other than Covid.

Unfortunately there are also some people who just don't give a hoot about others.  A couple of cruises ago was sitting in Blu next to a table of 6.  The woman directly across from me had watery eyes, kept blowing her nose, and was saying to her tablemate that she thought she was getting a cold.  The woman next to her tablemate who also had watery eyes and a stuffy nose was talking about how she was "feeling better", that the medicine had helped.  I couldn't believe in these Covid days that they would be so inconsiderate of others, not report their symptoms, and have the unmitigated gall to freely talk about it right next to us.  Not sure what they had but fortunately we didn't catch it.  I did speak to the Maitre d' afterwards to report what was going on but they are obviously in a very tough position.  I asked that at the very least he try to seat them in a corner away from others (and warn his servers to be careful).  He did the first night but at breakfast they were back to sitting mid-restaurant infecting who knows who with who knows what.  Ugh!

That's disappointing.

We had the same experience 2 months ago in Alaska on Princess.

So many sick and coughing people.

And a woman behind us saying she was feeling better with her medicine. The ship was packed, the busses were packed and even though there was mandated masks indoors--nobody wore them.

We were very careful--no casino or theaters (we don't go anyway), ate outdoors mostly, wore masks, used stairs instead of elevators. Tested positive the day after we got home.

I was hoping for better behavior on Celebrity but we will not count on that.

I am an allergy suffer. I take two different meds to control it. If I was around the ship in the  early morning, everyone would assume I had Covid. I cough, I sneeze, I blow my nose, I clear my throat. I know it is allergies. So, I now plan to be up at least an hour before I leave my cabin as I don’t want others to think  I have Covid.

This describes me perfectly, except for the last sentence. I'll get up whenever I feel like it and don't really care what others think I might have.

Beginning tomorrow most sailing from US and Europe 9 nights or less do not ready vaccinated to test before boarding.  So some will get on ships unknowingly positive and may or may not ever experience symptoms that would cause them to test or report symptoms.
The days of reporting cases on board seem to over as they will have no way to know.

Cruising is returning to what is was and I’m glad.

Not clear what you mean by "days of reporting cases", are you meaning the ship updating passengers with the numbers of cases onboard is over or do you mean people testing positive onboard is over? If it's the former, it sounds like that's been fading out for a couple months now as I've read cruise reports here where they confirmed people were quarantined but the ship was not announcing case numbers. If it's the latter, well no, people will continue to test positive onboard if they experience symptoms and choose to go to the clinic to get tested or ship staff sees them with symptoms and requires them to be tested.

As far as returning to the "what it was", until testing is completely gone prior to ALL cruises or for back-to-backs and there is no quarantining in cabins other than your own, then things are not back to normal.

Have to say I’m quite pleased we have to still test for our cruise on Apex in October. I know people can test positive post test however at least I know on embarkation that most will hopefully be negative.

Same here. We board the Summit this weekend with multiple stops in the Canadian Maritimes, and we're happy everyone has to test before boarding. It's not perfect, but it helps screen out some who could spread the virus.

Yikes.  Boarding in a couple of weeks.  But this is what I expected when they have a ship at virtually full capacity.  At least if I had to quarantine in my own cabin that would be WAAAY better than being moved to a smaller ocean view cabin with no balcony!

We're following a "live from" blog by a couple on a B3B on the Summit right now, and this is what they're reporting, as well. We're also happy to hear that, if we contract Covid while on board, at least we'll be able to stay in our Sky Suite and enjoy the balcony.

And, yes, we will self-test/report and quarantine if we develop symptoms, as I would hope others would - but, unfortunately, I have been distressed to see many here on CC and in Facebook cruise groups say they will do anything they can to cover it up and will not "get stuck in their cabin" even if they are sick. 😬

A very enlightened view.  Brace yourself...😬

I hear you, but I confess I have mixed feelings.  Now that they have removed vaccine requirements, there will undoubtedly be people boarding with a negative test, then coming down with Covid,  and being unvaccinated are much more likely to require hospital care which would then involve ships changing itineraries, cancelling ports, etc..  I sincerely hope it doesn't come to that for all our sakes.

Hospitalizations (vaccinated or not) are extremely rare with these variants.  It is a non-issue except for those with significant other health issues whom, I assume, would not be on vacations to begin with.

While it was not Celebrity, it was happening on our recent Princess Cruise. Not even sure a Quarantine section was even set up on the ship. I know of at least 2 folks that were allowed to stay in their cabin, along with their non-positive roommate.

On Eclipse now and there is an out of bounds area on deck 3.  Upon return from an excursion today there were quite a few new crew onboarding and being tested on the pier.  Those cabins could be for them as they have to quarantine for at least a few days. Virtually nobody masking except crew and no mention of Covid… just the washy washy people outside Oceanview with the sanitizer.  Officer said we are 100% occupancy, so not sure how that is calculated.

Nominally, the number of cabins made available for occupation by passengers on that sailing x 2.

That's why it's possible to sail at what they call >100%.  Have seen cruises during popular family times at 109%.

People cough and sneeze for many reasons.  Some people (like me) sneeze due to allergies.  Some people cough and/or sneeze due to having a cold (which they may or may not have caught before the cruise). Sometimes people cough because they got something caught in their throat. Some people have COPD. You can't assume Covid based on coughing or sneezing.

Well all that certainly is true.  However, when faced with a scenario in which someone sits down next to me in the theater and is clearly coughing and sneezing, a judgment call is necessary. One choice is to think “I’ll bet it’s nothing more than allergies”…and remain in my seat.  After all, I don’t wish to offend the cougher.  Another choice is to think “I don’t know what is causing the coughing and sneezing but it could be something I don’t want to contract such as Covid, the flu, or something else…and move”.  I’ve had Covid and I would strongly prefer not to get it again so I am likely to exercise option number two. I would like to think the cougher would understand but if that is not the case, so be it.

I agree with you.  I would move seats in this scenario, and in fact I did this just a few weeks ago when I was waiting at the airport and the lady next to me kept coughing, sneezing, and reaching for the Ricola.  My point is only that people should not be terrified that Covid is rampant just because people are coughing and sneezing.

Cheers!
