Exactly. Reminds me of the time my sister-in-law's former boyfriend wanted to wear sandals to my wife's law school graduation. He says "but they're Gucci!" My wife's retort was "all that means is that you overpaid for a pair of sandals." Something about putting lipstick on a pig here, LOL!

Actually, the most recent O policy on dress (dated 25 July 22) states: "We request that casual jeans, shorts, t-shirts, baseball caps, sandals, or tennis shoes not be worn in the restaurants after 6 PM." So, as long as the jeans do not appear to be "casual", you can wear them. Yes, I know there are those who say all jeans are casual or that there's no such thing as dressy jeans. However, apparently O disagrees with their personal fashion sense, as do many other people and establishments. Just because it's not one's personal norm, or because it wasn't acceptable in the past, or grandma said that young ladies don't wear certain things in public, doesn't mean that everyone else should comply - especially when it is specifically allowed by a restaurant or cruise line. For better or worse, fashion changes. (Remember when girls weren't allowed to wear pants to school or church?!) 3

techteach Posted March 20, 2023 #255 Share Posted March 20, 2023 I remember very well, 6th grade, the snow was really deep and it was really cold. In the morning we would listen to the radio to find out if girls were allowed to wear pants to school that day. By 7th grade torn jeans worn at the hip became the norm. I don’t judge what people wear and hope they don’t judge me. Physical limitations definitely impact what we wear and I hope we can all give grace.

Wow..I think we will take your advice. We had a Bermuda cruise planned that got dropped due to the whole covid/wuhan thing. Fast forward with another booked. Will the fashion police be morphing into a laundry police monitoring group? I think we'll stick with Regent and Silversea..Are bunny ears a fashion statement? 1 1

Well, perhaps if she dressed reasonably, it wouldn't have happened. I've seen plenty of Pax pics when finely dressed. Why not for the slobs? Perhaps she'll see this & have the courage to give her own opinion. As for us, my spouse would have had a good talk with the Maitre D. If he/she is unwilling to reasonably enforce the dress code, then you can bet a complaint will be made to the hotel Maitre D mgr.on board.

As to "laundry" One pair of pants for a 10 day(or more cruise) is still pretty gross.. I doubt the person would wash them regularly. Yes, I've been near some pax who did not clean properly. No matter your opinion it's disgusting. Edited March 20, 2023 by rbtan additions

lj77346 Posted March 20, 2023 #262 Share Posted March 20, 2023 This topic is like a bad cold that just won't go away. From the number of comments you would think that dressing sloppy was an endemic problem on Oceania cruises. Does it occur occasionally - sure, but is it enough of an issue that some become obsessed with it - apparently so. I've been on 20+ Oceania cruises and never perceived people's choice of clothing as a significant issue. Maybe it's because I'm oblivious or not very observant, but I'd sure rather enjoy my cruise than worry about how others dress 10

I had assumed that the OP's husband was referring to casual jeans since they were worn with sneakers, which I interpreted as tennis shoes, but of course, neither may not be the case.

Nashna Posted March 20, 2023 #265 Share Posted March 20, 2023 On a recent Celebrity cruise, I was stopped and asked to remove my hat at breakfast in the MDR. Frankly, I was shocked. It was a port day, and we had an excursion planned. I dressed in capris and a nice top for the day, placed my golf visor on my head and went to breakfast in the MDR. The waiter escorting me to the table stopped mid-aisle to inform me that I needed to remove my hat. Seriously, I didn't know the no-hat rule applied to ladies. This was not a ball cap. I was flummoxed! Let's be honest; my hair looked a lot better in that visor than it did without it.

Nashna Posted March 20, 2023 #267 Share Posted March 20, 2023 It could be. I always follow the rules, and it never occurred to me that I would be the one to need to be reminded. I asked about wearing any hat and was told none were allowed.
