Yorkypete Posted September 13, 2022 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2022 Can anyone (especially Moley) explain the reasoning behind disabling the usb ports on P&O televisions in the cabins. We like to take a couple of films or a tv series on a flash drive to watch if the weather is bad but the TV usb ports are disabled. I cannot see any reason for this.
BillieJeanKaraokeKing Posted September 14, 2022 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2022 I'd imagine the priority is that they want/need the cruise line functionality on the TVs to be readily available for all customers, and wouldn't want to have crew potentially faffing about because customers have been in changing settings/inputs etc.
Trevor Fountain Posted September 14, 2022 #3 Share Posted September 14, 2022 It is done for "Operational reasons".

Are you sure the ports are disabled and it is not just the remote that cannot access an input source. Sometimes in hotels I can access the input source for usb/hdmi and sometimes not depending whether the remote has the required buttons. I sometimes think I should get one of those universal remotes and try that as we like to watch films if the weather is not good on long cruises. In some cases the tv screens are so small we just use the laptop anyway.

Perhaps the ' operational reason ' is they don't want the punters fiddling about with the electronics. If someone came into my house and asked where they could stick their USB.............?.......Not to mention hair curlers/straighteners..🤣 Edited September 14, 2022 by zap99
Technoman2 Posted September 14, 2022 #6 Share Posted September 14, 2022 Perhaps you need to join by Tender if unable to dock in the port🙂

Rare david63 Posted September 14, 2022 #8 Share Posted September 14, 2022 One of the issues is that the TVs on some (all?) ships are connected to the ship's computer network and by allowing a flash drive to be connected opens up the possibility for the network to be hacked.

I think that folk sticking their gadgets into somebodies telly could be classed that way. Do they really all know what they are doing.....the tellies gone all funny. You shouldn't plug your toothbrush in it Doris.🤣

CCFC Posted September 14, 2022 #11 Share Posted September 14, 2022 If you plug a laptop into the TV its quite possible with the correct skills you could get onto the ships internal network, you dont want that!

Trevor Fountain Posted September 14, 2022 #14 Share Posted September 14, 2022 They could take the tv out for me. I usually cruise only once a year (in normal times), and the last thing I want on holiday is a tv.
emam Posted September 14, 2022 #15 Share Posted September 14, 2022 The usb could have a virus. You aren't allowed to plug them in on the pc's in the library for that reason.

tring Posted September 14, 2022 #17 Share Posted September 14, 2022 Can I ask if there are any other USB ports in the cabins, perhaps on the electric sockets, which can be used to charge phones?

bbtablet Posted September 14, 2022 #19 Share Posted September 14, 2022 Just off Ventura and we used a UK 3 pin adapter with a USB port in the back of it to charge our phones.
