My RCL App how does the message system work?

We would like to keep in contact with other parties on the ship. was wondering how it works and do both parties need to have smart phones.

My wife and I used it on odyssey of the seas,  Its more like a message board than a chat app.  Nothing notifies you of a new message, you have to actively check the app to see if you have a new message.

It was barely better than nothing, I would not buy it again.

Was all we had to communicate on a Celebrity Cruise using the same app but the service was complimentary....Basic & crude but it did the job.

 

Probably will use it on our upcoming Royal Alaska Cruise even at the $1.99 price😔

We were so frustrated by the messaging part of the app and felt it was way overpriced.  Carnival has the same capability for $1.99 for the entire cruise and it actually worked.  While it is more expensive, we each get internet and are able to communicate stress free.
