best place to snorkel - DIY

We have been to St. Lucia once before and did an amazing full day tour that included snorkeling at Sugar Beach.  We absolutely loved it!

We will be going to St. Lucia again in February but this time would like to just spend the day on a beach that has good snorkeling.  Is Sugar Beach something we could DIY or is there somewhere else closer to Castries that is recommended?  Just looking for a place with nice facilities and snorkeling from the beach that we can reach by cab or water taxi.

Following as we will be there in Dec 2022.

IMO the best best by far is Anse Chastanet (as indicted) take a cab.  
Allow 15 minutes extra for the return to ship because of port traffic.

Last visit we had a day pass to the Hotel, so worth it.

About 1.25 hours there and 1.50 hours back…. Taxi say $100 e/w including tip.
