How does cabin upgrade work with medallion?

Heading out soon on a New England /Canada cruise.  Bid on an upgraded cabin and was successful.  Saw that our medallions were shipped (not received yet), prior to the change in cabins.  This may be a stupid question, but do you have to get new medallions upon check in, or by some Princess magic does the medallion recognize the change?  Also, just had our Princess Rep changed for the 99th time.  Kinda liked the last guy… Bummer.

Probably will be filled. The first two to three days crossing to Hawaii can be cool, not tropical, and may have choppy seas. You will see people around the pools, but they usually have a cover up on.

If you don't mind informing me what did you upgrade to and how much was your bid.

No you don’t have to change your Medallion. The new information will be on your current one.

They reprogram the locks, not your medallion.

Right! The medallion itself really doesn't "know" anything other than it's own unique ID code. It's the ship's computer (the ship really has lots of computers, I'm referring to the system that deals with the medallions) has a database that associates the unique code with you. The same database also contains information as to which cabin (or even cabins) you should have access to. The ship's system with then "talk" to one of those little Samsung tablets at your cabin door and let it know to open the door when it detects your medallion close by. Yes, if you look closely, all those cabin door displays are simply Samsung tablets (you can even see the camera) connected to the same kind of medallion sensor used by the staff. They're mounted in a nice case but they're still tablets just the same. Personally I think that's a pretty cool design!

Oh yeah, with those cameras just think of all the surveillance opportunities - better behave in the hallways!

They SHOULD reprogram so that your Medallion will open the new cabin seamlessly.  If it doesn't, you need to make a quick visit to the Purser's Office (aka Passenger Services) to have them fix it.  Just as if you are checking into any hotel and the key doesn't open your room's door.
