Looking for foodie tours

I'm looking for something food oriented in a few of the following ports.

Burnie, Timaru, Christchurch, Wellington, Napier, Gisborne, Bay of Islands.  Our last few major trips have been to Italy where we did some amazing clases, meals, trips to markets or multi-stop tastings so we're kind of spoiled.    We're open to all suggestions.  I would especially appreciate some that focus on local foods.

thanks

Pam

Chocchic....somehow I think I know your cc name....what cruiseline are you on?

Anyway, we signed up for a Burnie Chef's Tour in January. Through SHORE EXCURSIONS GROUP.  It's a small group and I'm really excited about it.

Also if you are spending time in Sydney before your cruise,  we booked a Chef's Tour of Hunter Valley....starts out with a very early morning trip to the Sydney Fish Market to pick up to be prepared along the way.

Darn.... that is exactly the type of thing I'm looking for but we are doing a pre-cruise extension - spending 3 days in Great Barrier Reef so not much extra time in Sydney.

How did you find the Chef's Tour?  Maybe there are similiar offerings in other ports.

Yes, We will be cruising with Patti and Steve.  It's a small world.. made smaller when we travel.

If you are in Napier on a Sunday then the Hawke's Bay Farmers Market is definitely worth a visit. If not, Napier is one of the biggest wine growing regions in New Zealand, so I would recommend a wine tour and perhaps lunch at a vineyard.

Gisborne also has some great wine grown locally, and I noted on a local trip up there some cool looking local breweries.

Wellington (my home town) - if you are here on a Sunday I would walk around the waterfront to the Waterfront Market, have a browse and grab some food to eat from the food trucks/stalls. Highly recommend porno donuts if you have a sweet-tooth. Then I would pop into Te Papa (right next door). From there, it really depends on what you like - there are lots of local breweries in Wellington, so potentially worth giving them a visit. Parrot Dog (in Lyall Bay), Double Vision (in Miramar), Garage Project (in Aro Valley) you will want to uber to. Double Vision could be combined with a visit to Weta Workshop and a coffee at The Larder.

Here's a guide to some more - https://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/destinations/nz/wellington/123420347/the-ultimate-guide-to-wellingtons-brewpubs

Coffee is also big in Wellington. Lots of local roasteries.

I also found this tour - https://www.zozotravel.co.nz/taste-buds-tour-petone which will take you slightly north of Wellington to Petone, which is a bit of a foodie hub too.

100% agree!  I participated in 3 different wine tours when I last visited New Zealand and loved--and learned--from every one of them.  One of the tours did include a delicious lunch in a very pleasant setting.

I had to Google porno donuts; they sound good.  A walk around the waterfront, regardless of the day of the week, is very enjoyable.  A stop at the Wellington Museum was a favorite of mine as well as Te Papa.  I really enjoyed my visit to your home city!

We ended up booking Chefs Tour in Burnie and the Viator Private Foodie Delights Tour - which will allow us to have some input on stops.  I will definitely have to ask about Porno Donuts.  Any specific winery tours anyone want to suggest?

If any fellow cruisers are interested we can share this tour.

Looking to share Foodie Tour from Wellington - It is a private tour from Viatour

We'll have our own dedicated Driver/Guide and 'Memory Creator. Enjoy a 7 hour private tour from Wellington to the South Wairarapa covering majestic scenery, visit to an Artisan Chocolate factory, visits to Gladstone and Martinborough Wineries including a spectacular platter lunch at one of the wineries we visit and local cheese and craft beer tastings. We also visit the beautiful town of Martinborough well recognised for the 'Capital' of Pinot Noir of the North Island. If you have any particular winery you wish to visit this can be arranged in advance.

I would suggest you ask on your roll call for people to join you. You are likely to get more reponse there than on here.
