Passport turn around times?

Anyone get a passport recently?  My Son and Husband passport expired (covid) and we just sent them in for renewal.  We did it digitally which was a little bit time consuming (beta testing) but nice that I didn't have to leave the house and could use a credit card, winning~! Said it could take up to 10 weeks.  I'd like to hear from folks that have ordered one recently if it really took that long.  For our Alaska cruise years ago it came much faster then the then quoted 8 weeks but that was before all the security checks they do now.  Thanks all you happy cruisers!

My adult children just sent in their passport renewals in early October.

My daughter in OH, sent hers in to the PA address and got it back already.

My son in MN, had to mail his to the TX address, and the online system says the status is "not available".

You can't predict.  My husband and I both sent ours away ... and his zipped back in something like two weeks, whereas mine took longer than their projected timeline.  I can't remember exactly how many weeks.  We're both "easy" ... natural born citizens, no name changes, no criminal activity.  I would've thought they'd have arrived within a day or two of one another.

I went to the Passport Office in San Francisco.  I was there as soon as they opened and got my updated /renewal passport about 4 hours later.  Unfortunatly, there are not many Passport Offices around.  For example, I belive there are only two of them in all of California.   I know this  won’t help you now, but others might find this useful.

  • 2 weeks later...

Per the State Department:

  • Routine: 6-9 weeks
  • Expedited: 3-5 weeks

When my cruise got cancelled in early August, I used it as an opportunity to renew my passport card and book:

  • Date mailed (August 10th) until date received (August 11th) at processing center in Irving, TX - 1 Day
  • Notification of receipt (August 15th) - 4 Days
  • Receipt of passport book (September 22nd) - 38 Days (5 weeks and 3 days)
  • Receipt of passport card (September 24th) - 40 Days (5 weeks and 5 days)

I also ensured that my Global Entry was up-to-date.

It's really all over the place. When I renewed mine in June of this year by mail, it took about two and a half weeks from sending it in to having the new one in hand. My husband needed a new one (had never had one) and we submitted that on 10/7, application status is showing "in process" going on week 7.
