Monterey.

Recommended Posts

Monterey is probably one of the safest ports you will stop.  We have done long weekends there for +40 years.  There use to be a free trolly that made a route along the waterfront, down cannery row and to the aquarium.  It only runs at certain times of the year.  Check the city www site to see if it still runs.  The walk down isn't bad, but you might want a ride back.  Couple of tips, the trolly stops at the head of the pier and everybody tries to fight to get on there.  Look at the route map and walk to another stop a little further away.  Do the same on the way back.  Don't try to get on right in front of the aquarium,  walk down cannery row a little and get on at the stop just prior or walk a couple down.  If you have time, Peter B's Brew Pub inside the Portola Plaza hotel is great.  No view, but cheaper than the places on the wharf.  If you want great food on the wharf do the Old Fisherman's Grotto.  We use to drive over for the day just for the calamari and the view.  It's a wharf icon.

Check their web site.  They have limited hours.
