I have an offer for a comped cruise, can I use it without needing another person in the room? Will I have to pay the solo fee?

Of course you can....it's treated just like any other reservation other than it's comped.

I did in back in December on Mariner.  I also, did a mock booking to determine what it would cost me to upgrade to a balcony cabin.  With my D+ balcony and senior discount it cost me $0 + taxes & fees.

I've got an 8 niter in February on the Anthem and the difference/cost me was $5 + T&F, however this is a combo of the D+ balcony and the solo supplement (DP340) discounts.

They would prefer you go solo

I'm not so sure about that:  solo travelers are HALF to buying units.  Only one person to potentially buy drink packages, dining packages, goods in the shops, services in the spa, excursions on shore, etc., as compared to two or more that could be sailing in the cabin.

Now as a gambler, I find it less conflicting to travel solo so I never hear:  "You're going to the casino again?  Why don't WE do this instead??"   That could be the only reason they want gamblers to be solo too.

I recently cruised solo on Liberty in a casino comp balcony cabin. The original reservation was for my DS and me, but he missed boarding time due to work. I got the port and tax fees back, but did not get double points. I called C&A and they said I do not get double points because we didn't cancel my DS 30 days before the cruise. I didn't know he was going to be at work late and miss boarding. Has anyone experienced not getting double points?

Curious -- I just booked my first casino comp, 3000 points "balcony" on a 3-night Freedom OTS Miami cruise and to go to a suite was quite a bit more (but worth it for me).

How do I know they applied my proper D+ balcony/suite discount to the non-comp fare portion?

What I did and you should do is armed with a cost detail by doing mock bookings between the interior and a balcony or suite.  Then compare the difference and look at the details and that IMHO should be you determination if they are applying all of the discounts.

By the way, I do the mock booking before booking any crusie either directly with Royal or a TA.

How long ago? I've read this is happening lately, but I got my double points for a 3 night on Indy in June. Laura was a no show.

I booked an upgraded category and paid the difference, then the  price dropped on the upgraded category and I was able to get a big part of my upgrade fee reduced and credited back to my credit card. It’s worth keeping an eye on the base fare.
