Carnival Celebration “Mid” Review

I am curious how the "official ship time" works when crossing the Atlantic with its multiple time zones.  Is it keeping the same time (from Southampton?) the entire way?  That would be terribly confusing when reaching the final destination port of Miami which would be off by five hours.  Maybe they change it on the last day?

Clocks moved forward an hour from England to Spain, but now are moving backward by an hour at a time. It is posted on the app and at Guest Services if ship time will change that night

Those excel class elevators are a huge con! We were on Mardi Gras last week and I was very shocked how small they were, you could really only comfortably fit 5 MAYBE 6 people but we kept getting smashed in with 10+.

It also depends on the size of the people - we were typically in with a total of about 9 and while snug it was certainly not unbearable for a short trip.

I'm curious if they used different types of door switches for the public restrooms. The ones on the Mardi Gras were too confusing and resulted in many mishaps.

Oh yeah. I think on lido you had a push a button to close the door and some people didn't do that....

We are currently sailing on Carnival Celebration’s Inaugural Transatlantic cruise and I thought since we have sooooo many sea days in a row, I figured I write a mid cruise review and answer any questions people have.

Ship
We are sailing at about 75% capacity. The ship design and multiple food options around the ship helps spread out the crowds. For this cruise, there is plenty of seating on the pool deck, at the buffet, and theater. At this capacity and demographic, the ship is a perfect size. We cruised the Mardi Gras in May near 100% capacity with many families onboard and that was a much different experience.

Entertainment

So far the entertainment has been awesome! From the headliner singers and performances at Center Stage to the Comedians at the Limelight Lounge/ Punchliner club, Family Feud, the performances in the theater… there is something always going on! I applaud Carnival for providing so much entertainment for this transatlantic cruise and bringing in so many acts!

Food

The quick service food has been fantastic! This includes venues such as The Deli, Guys Burger’s, Street Eats, Blue Iguana, and Miami Slice Pizza. Even the Java Blue food area has delicious Breakfast sandwiches, finger foods like empanadas and pastries served. We enjoy the variety and different food options around the ship. There are some changes in menu for the deli and pizza since this area has a Miami Theme, Cuban influence. E3D7AA75-98DC-4C4B-AE34-9C2221623717.thumb.jpeg.c9ee591998f159fbd7b6293ff29d6bb2.jpegC2CDC3DF-9387-4F2A-8E2F-C5019D53A381.thumb.jpeg.419ea216633186265eef3f65124edc13.jpeg58D75333-E9BF-49E9-AACF-96C74F15EFBD.thumb.jpeg.dab911806256999ddb67b053229f1444.jpeg

The food in the main dining room has been typical Carnival fare, some hits…some misses. Overall it’s fine. You can also dine in Chibang and Cucina de Capitano for free. The food at these venues were better on the Mardi Gras. This is the first sailing, so I think this will get better with time and as the chefs get more experience. I’m saddened that they took the Farfalle Al Pistachio off the menu at Cucina de Capitano! That was my favorite dish on the menu. The Chia Pudding on the Sea Day Brunch menu has been taken off. I was really looking forward to it. I guess will need to find those recipes! We haven’t tried any specialty restaurants but heard Rudis was excellent.

Activities

There are plenty of activities to keep you occupied. I was kind of worried I’d get bored on the sea days, but the activity schedule is jam packed and will keep you busy. Cruise director Lee is very visible and his team is great!

Service

The service has been good. The crew are always courteous and friendly. There were times last week when there were a few hiccups and service was very slow, but again it’s the first sailing and there will always be some kinks to deal with. Our stateroom attendant Leslie has been awesome! Maybe he doesn’t think the same about us…towel animal below 😂

Cons

I love the concept of Center Stage in the atrium, but I think the seating and sight lines are terrible in this venue. You constantly have people passing by on deck 7 to go from one end of the ship to the other during the show. I thought they would fix this issue from Mardi Gras but it is the same. Hopefully they change it for the Jubilee. Also the background noise you get from the venues behind the seating is quite distracting. I felt bad for one of the performers who had to deal with these drunk people screaming during her performance. They weren’t watching the show, but waiting for their table at Bonsai on Deck 8.

Elevators are on the small side and sllloooww.

Thoughts

Overall, we are having a fantastic and relaxing cruise. As long as I can survive the next 5 sea days in the casino 😳😂

If you were able to catch a shot (pun intended) of that brewhouse drink menu. I think that's the only thing I haven't seen.

Thanks for the Golden Jubilee menu, I am hoping that whoever is there makes the Golden Sidecar well. A sidecar is one of my favs.  Can't wait until February.

However for reference in the info from Zydecocruiser I found the Golden Jubilee menu under his links for Sea Day 3

I’m not sure if this is the one you were looking for

Which I guess I understand because people were tired of waiting for one. I was just really scratching my head how the biggest ship with highest pax count was designed with the absolute smallest elevators I’ve ever seen on a ship.

Sailed on the MG for 28 days this year.  Could easily fit three people to the right, three people to the left and one person (DH) behind me in my scooter in the middle. That's 8 people with a scooter or 9 people with no problem. And my husband is not a small guy.

The problem with the elevators was when you were already waiting and others jumped ahead of you.  Happened more often in the midship section, which seemed to be the busier of the three sets of elevators.

You had to wave your hand over the sensor once the automated door closed behind you.  If the color went from green to red, it was then locked.  If people did not do this, then someone could accidentally walk in on them.

It was a matter of being educated, similar to the smart elevators on the Vista Class.

The new venues. We're doing a B2B on her in April. Tell Lee that Jeff and Patti from New Jersey said hello. Thanks! 😎

I did, but it didn't ring a bell. Even showed him your profile picture. But to be fair, he was walking as part of Groove for St Jude. Think he had another hour and a half to go.

He asked about the family name but I told him his guess was a good as mine.

He did seem certain he would recognize you on sight. You can see if he remembers someone passing him a note and walking along with him when we were discussing on the TA sailing and the 50k raised for St Jude. I might have told him you would match. Enjoy!

I saw that. It’s mostly pictures of bars. There are a couple menus there but not for the the two bars I asked for.

I downloaded copies of 12 bars by clicking on the bar's name before the pictures.

Thanks for the review and sharing the menus. It has been difficult to find them for deco and miami slice. I am really excited for those, especially the deli. I want everything on the deco menu. With all of the lunch options onboard, I don't know how I am going to fit all of this in. For those who haven't had a sandwich on cuban bread, you are missing out.

Thanks for trying. He's probably met hundreds of "Jeff's" and hundreds of Patti's" in his career. We sailed with him on the Splendor to Hawaii, Panorama, and the Mardi Gras. I probably should have attached this latest picture from the Mardi Gras.
