Jbluebird Posted December 2, 2022 #1 Share Posted December 2, 2022 HI, Just booked Jewel of the Seas, which is a new ship to us. I have a couple questions. I'm not sure this is the right place to ask the first question, but....Balcony Guarantee was the only balcony cabin option when we booked. I just found out we have an obstructed view balcony room on Deck 7, but I don't know how to find out what the obstruction is. Please let me know if this isn't the place to ask. I'd also be interested in excursion recommendations for ports in Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. Thank you in advance for any help!
Coralc Posted December 2, 2022 #2 Share Posted December 2, 2022 (edited) Jewel is a nice ship. Our favorite of the class. Deck 7 balconies are obstructed by the lifeboat covers below your balcony. They are large white platforms, which obscure your ability to look down, but not out. I don't have a photo handy. Someone will, or you can just do a Google search on Lifeboat covers, Radiance class. If you provide the cabin #, someone may provide details on that. Look at a site like cruisedeckplans, which has photos/videos of various cabins. There are multiple You Tube videos available that will visually show you exactly what the view looks like for an outside balcony to include the slight partial obstructed view due to the lifeboat canopies. Use "Jewel of the Seas cabin 9092" for the search engine and specify video. I did not provide a direct link because it might be seen as competition. The video is for a spacious balcony on the "Hump," but he goes outside on the balcony and does a great job showing you the side of the ship and how much obstruction the lifeboat canopy causes (which in my opinion is a very minor obstruction if not even an obstruction if you look straight out into the ocean). Rare Deeliteful Posted December 2, 2022 #5 Share Posted December 2, 2022 Just did a T/A on the Jewel, it’s a really lovely ship. Enjoy your cruise.
RedIguana Posted December 2, 2022 #6 Share Posted December 2, 2022 As Coralc noted, the obstruction is just straight down, not out. It is more like your balcony railing should be out another 6 feet. Great location for acrophobiacs. I know Engineroon Snipe was listing that video so you could see the lifeboat coverings, just be aware the room he listed is about 20 square feet larger than the 7th or 8th deck regular balconies.
Jbluebird Posted December 2, 2022 Author #7 Share Posted December 2, 2022 Thank you everyone. At your suggestions, I found a video of cabin 7050 and, as someone mentioned, it's just the top of the lifeboats at the lower edge of the balcony. So, we can still look out, just not down. The only other thing is it's above the casino, but hopefully the floors are well insulated. 🙂
ValerieJo Posted December 2, 2022 #8 Share Posted December 2, 2022 We also have a Deck 7 obstructed view balcony booked. This YouTube video was pretty helpful. (It turns out, we have this actual room booked).

Thank you for catching that, I did not want anyone to think the balcony size was typical. That particular balcony is almost 85 square feet which is a large as some of the suite balconies. You were correct that I just wanted to display the lifeboat canopies.
