Azamara Upgrades

We have been away from this forum for a few years for obvious reasons.

Long time experienced cruisers. We have sailed Azamara 3 times previously.

Last Azamara cruise was 2015. Then, a a previous cruiser, you could register for a paid upgrade.

we were offered an upgrade from a balcony to owners suite on our Greek islands cruise for £800 which we jumped at and had the most fantastic experience.

Am I reading the forum correctly that it doesn’t work that way anymore?

It doesn't.

They no longer have a fixed rate for upgrades.  On some cruises that led to too many people trying to upgrade; on others there were still suites left empty.

Now it is an auction, where you are allowed to bid and given guidance on what is a weak or good bid.  Then at some point before the cruise they either accept your bid or not.  Sometimes weak bids work; other times not.  'Yield Management' – gives everybody the chance for an upgrade at a price they feel is worthwhile, and gives Azamara the greatest possible revenue.

It was £800 per cabin, not pp!

as a comparison, on my upcoming cruise (10 nights) I can bid for an upgrade from V1 balcony to Owners Suite...starting bid (weak!) £2,580pp

Club Continent Suite bids started at £350pp

When offered CW and CO upgrades under the former procedure, the price was $1500-2000 for the suite, not per person.

And you got some of it back in OBC, making the deal even better!
