Query about Customs and Immigration processing Majestic Princess 29th January 2023 cruise

Recommended Posts

Hi Fellow Cruisers

Just wondering what the procedure is with regards to the following scenario.

Majestic Princess departs Auckland on the 29th January 2023, stops at several ports in New Zealand then stops at Hobart Thursday 9th February before it arrives in Sydney on Saturday 11th February 2023.

As Hobart is the first stop in Australia will the ship clear Immigration in Hobart or Sydney.

Thank you in advance

Presuming it is still done the way we have had it previously, borderforce  used to fly out and board in Dunedin, then do passenger processing on the sea days over to Hobart. In covid times though, I wonder if they are still allowed to have their 3 day junket. If not, processing should be done in Hobart.

So at the time, we have been processed as entered before Hobart, arrival cards marked and kept for handing in after arriving in Sydney to ensure you were still within duty free limits.

The last time we did an NZ cruise, in 2019, the processing was done in Hobart.

I will defer to that. Checking back, the last time we did Auckland to Sydney was in 2015. Time flies.

Thank you, so in theory ,if the processing is done in Hobart then so long as Majestic Princess is Tier 1 or less then boarding for the following cruise on 11th February 2023 shouldn't be delayed like the recent cruises?

Thank you

The logic of that is skewed. It assumes there are no formalities to be done on arrival in Sydney. Wrong!  The ship still has to be cleared by the the authorities and there is no guarantee it will be cleared promptly. Chances are it will be but ...

The bulk of the recent delays have been because of the tier 2 or 3 protocols. If the ship is tier 1, disembarking will be smooth followed by check-in opening at the scheduled time.

We are on the following cruise, and have our fingers crossed that everything is more normal again by then.

I'm not on this particular cruise but we are doing our first international cruise soon.  What do Bordeforce actually do on these trips?  How does it work for those in COVID Iso on the way back in to Australia?

Just disembarked from Majestic while still in last 2 isolation days   They took our embarkation cards and did not give us luggage tags   They said they would take us all off together after everyone else had gone BUT  later that night I was given luggage tags to be the FIRST off and we completed NEW cards when we reached the emigration/customs table  No problems  just  different information which changed to our benefit as we had an early train to catch
