Welcome to Cruise Critic.  But you are on the wrong forum.  There is a forum here called North American Homeports.  Under that you will find West Coast Departures.  That is where you will find everything you want to know about arrival at the ports.  EM

Howdy @terrima and welcome to the Cruise Critic message boards!

To help you out I have moved your thread to the West Coast Departures forum where it will be on topic. The majority of your fellow Cruise Critic members sailing from the West Coast frequent this forum and provide feedback here. Browse through the thread titles on this forum looking for threads of interest. You will find your fellow Cruise Critic members have already posted questions and received answers that may be of interest to you.

The Cruise Critic website and message boards are a great resource for new as well as experienced cruisers and we are so glad you found us! Please feel free to browse the Cruise Critic Community categories list for the various forums. Read a few threads in the different forums to get a feel for what each forum is about. Make sure you read any pinned threads (aka Stickies) on the top of the first page of threads in most forums. You will find very important instructions or information there.

Hope this will be helpful and glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic!

Happy sails,

Not sure what you mean by the "best" but we used a taxi from LAX to San Pedro port terminal which is where RCI cruises out of this past October and it was approx $70 including tip.

Depending on what terminal you arrive at just take the LAX-IT free shuttle bus to the Taxi/Uber/Lyft area. Very easy to do.

Uber or Lyft will be much cheaper than a taxi...most of the time (Surge pricing might affect rates leaving LAX).  Uber, Lyft and taxis all leave from the LAX-it lot (across the street from Terminal 1...or a short shuttle ride from other terminals with shuttle coming every few minutes...or sooner).

When you get to the LAX-it lot, check the Uber and Lyft apps...pick whichever is lower.  Or, if both higher than the taxi fare, walk over to the taxis and grab one.  We've done that ride in the $40ish range with Uber...(I just checked on Uber and it was $37.92 right now).

The answer depends on many factors; how many people, are there mobility issues, what is your budget and maybe other considerations.

The first place to start is talking about LAX to San Pedro where all the cruise lines except Carnival share terminals. LA is not like Miami or Fort Lauderdale, the airport isn't ten minutes from the cruise terminals, It is more like a 35-55 minutes away. The time difference is all about LA traffic.

In general taxis and ride share can't pick up curb side, you have to ride a shuttle to a secondary lot to get a ride. If you want curb side service you need a premium service like Uber Black, a private town car and the like. A regular Uber is like $40, Uber Black is more like $90.
