Where are the cove balconies located? How did they get that name?

Right here:

Cove balconies are on deck 6.

Cove balconies are not new to the Carnival Corporation family and are currently most prominently seen on Carnival (Dream-class, Vista-class, Excel-class). The concept is as such because your balcony is like a "hole in the hull" instead of it being like one among a row of glass like you see on other typical ship balconies. They're not dissimilar to how ship balconies used to be like on many older vessels, but here, cove balconies are also specifically located under what are usually the main public decks, so they're much closer to the water, thus the architectural design.

Strongly agree that it must be part of the galley, if you look at it logically. There are similarly huge "empty" areas on existing ships in the aft connected to dining areas, such as Discovery (shown below):

dides, great pictures thanks. I was actually able to snag a balcony in the sphere, deck 15 port side. Hope to see more pictures of the ship in the near future. Looking forward to sailing on the Sun.

I'm no expert but it looks like a crew only area - maybe it's where they have the galley?

Since it's directly below the Horizon's Dining Room deck six it could be food storage.

Has anyone sleuthed out any larger balconies on the Sun that are like the aft Dolphin deck larger balconies on the Sky?

I did some quick sleuthing for you. The ones that leapt out to me are the balconies just on the edge of the Sphere (just one aft or forward of the "premium deluxe" balconies). Examples are 10402 and 10436.

In addition, there are also the very forward sections on decks 11 and 12 featuring regular deluxe balcony cabins with larger balconies. Meanwhile, deck 14 has four of those larger ones up front but also eight larger balconies in the midsection, like mentioned on deck 10 (as opposed to just four on deck 10-12). Deck 15 just has those eight midsection ones. And deck 16 has 12 of those.

What about HAL?

Well, I guess I would still be best off with good ol´ Celebrity if they would not be on a "why not ask triple the prices from Pre-Covid and offer half the quality?" rampage these days...

Was on QM2 in May @vjmatty - surprisingly better than my last Celebrity cruise, especially the food around the ship. Was not expecting that.

I like to go watch and listen to good party when local Christopher Street Day Parade is in town, but I might have been raised a bit too old fashioned to spend 10 days or so in the middle of a continuous CSD @Abercrombie2019 .

But enough of the off topic - I have booked Sun Prncess for October 24 and I seem to have booked a category with about the least flaws on the ship, so... GO PRINCESS 😄

Now that we’ve established just how much queerness you are able to tolerate …

Just a heads up, the October 26th cruise is a Chumley’s Bear cruise.  The group might not even be noticeable on a ship the size of Sun Princess.

I have another question, for those who might be in-the-know.

Does anyone have any idea what Princess might do with those days at FLL before that first 5 night  U.S. inaugural?

Could they be doing a private, by invitation, cruise to nowhere for VIP, large travel agencies, etc?

If so, I wonder if those guests could stay onboard as a back-to-back?

I'm pretty sure those 5 days will be for exactly that. Lots of media onboard, TA stuff, etc. It can't be a cruise to nowhere because that's illegal in the US but it'll probably go to the Cays and back, plus miscellaneous extended time in Fort Lauderdale.

Any thoughts on deck 10 being above the public area? I have no experience with that and am wondering if it would be disruptive in the cabin or with it being a new ship maybe not?

I've only had one experience with that but it was on top of the art gallery so we knew what to expect (no noise) and got what we expected. The thing is that none of us can really tell you what will happen on the Sun because she'll be a new ship and also a new class of ship, so it's too hard to tell. But to be safe, just choose a room above and below other cabins.

That’s what I am thinking too! Thank you for your thoughts.

If it's private, by invite only, then prior guests probably can't stay on...just guessing though.

On deck 10, I am assuming that you are wanting a balcony, not an inside.

We have chosen a cabin in front of the Piazza / Sphere, as those cabins have a larger balcony, slightly deeper.

Those cabins also have interior cabins across from them, and not that White Space.  (which could, or could not, present a noise issue)

The Piazza is used for Entertainment Events, and this might be more-so on the Sun.  So, I am not sure I would want to be right over the Piazza.

I am not sure how much sound might come from the Buffet below.

But, I notice that the cabins, from the sphere back, have the whitespace, and no interior cabins across the hall.

I just booked for the Nov 2, 2023, sailing and am so excited. I was going to book the cabana mini- suite but just couldn’t justify the $$, so instead chose a premium deluxe balcony that has a balcony on the schematic that appears to be half the size of the room! I think there are only 2 of these midship and 2 aft, but I didn’t check every level. Pictured is the kind of room I booked on level 17 (in green.) I did Princess Plus. I feel like the free wifi, drinks, and tips makes it worth it!

I just booked for nov 2 2024. The website offered me a double sized cabana balcony for the same price as regular balconies. It was pretty affordable.

Right afterwards I got a players club casino offer. I haven't looked at it closely to see if I could have used it.

Me too, see you and EdinaHotdish onboard then hopefully. BTW there is a roll call started already.

We just finished watching a new video   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OR86yvVROdQ

featuring Richard Parker Director,Newbuild Guest Experience and Product Development Princess.  A one hour video for One Source that answered so many questions about this new ship.  I was hesitant abut now getting excited with what we saw.  Check it out.

Cheers

Louden
