hotel recommendations for Brisbane and Melbourne

Would anyone having knowledge of those two cities be able to recommend good hotels in each.  My husband and I plan to spend two days in each city to see the sights and would like something central, moderately priced and close to most attractions.  We will be there in March of 2024 and would like to start doing some research about where to stay and what to see.

Can't recommend any particular hotels in Melbourne, but be aware that the Australian Formula 1 is usually held sometime during March. That will have a big impact on both availability and cost if you are unfortunate enough to be here at that time.
Any hotel in the CBD should be handy for access to the extensive tram network and trams within the CBD are free.
There is a huge range of things to see and do which, of course, depends on your interests.

2023 Melbourne GP will be held from March 31st to April 2nd - Melbourne GP 2023

 

The official GP site doesn't have the schedule for 2024 but I found an unofficial site which has the race date as Sunday 24th March with pracractice and qualifying the previous two days - Unofficlal dates of Melbourne GP 2024

Looking for hotel near ship terminal and airport for 2 nights (Oct. 29- 31, 2023) in Brisbane before flight back to SFO. Also, one that will work to see some of the area.  Have  been looking but nothing.

There are a few airport hotels at/near BNE. I've stayed at the Pulman and it was nice. That being said, transit in Brisbane is pretty easy, so do consider staying in the city centre if you want to explore at all.

We've stayed at Royal On the Park in Brisbane. Moderately priced, very comfortable and situated right opposite the Botanical Gardens. Short taxi ride (or a pleasant walk) to Southbank and an easy walk to Queen Street Mall.
