Hawaii Cruises?

For anyone who has been/cruised to Hawaii we believe the casino is closed for the nights the ship is in Hawaii ports? We have booked a cruise that stops for overnights in Hilo, Kona and Maui so wondering if there are any recommendations for evening activity while off the ship?

Dinner at Mama's Fish House in Maui. Its' a true Hawaiian experience. Or Fleetwood's super sunset views!

Or maybe look for a Luau? If doing the Road To Hana, you'll get back late.

On Big Island, the volcano is beautiful at night, the lava is cool to see. Parking can be limited so plan to arrive early.

Also if you're into a more lively vibe, Down the Hatch in Lahaina is fun. The Food is good and they have music nightly. It's an open air dining area with a koi pond and bar. Super casual. Look them up, great fish tacos.

Thanks..it seems Maui will keep us occupied but not sure about Hilo and Kona. Do you recommend hiring a car?

Where are you from? USA? I'd rent a car. The roads are super easy! Kona is full of higher end hotels and dining. Hilo is more locals. VNP is pretty centered. The beaches are nice on Kona side, I did a dolphins swim/snorkel trip. MIND BLOWN! Swam with about 200 dolphins near Cape Cook

So for you ports, I'd suggest VNP out Hilo and beach activity out of Kona side.

On our last trip we booked a car in both Hilo and Kona.     Had a great time.   Drove to the top of Haleakala out of Hilo and in Kona we drove to Volcanic National Park.  Great outing at much more comfortable pace and cost than a ships excursion.    Cars were available at the pier.

Neither Hilo nor Kona is noted for great nightlife. I'd make reservations for a nice dinner in each spot and then partake in activities on the ship. Whether you eat late or make reservations for sunset is a personal call.

You could do a luau in Kona, Voyagers of the Pacific Luau is well regarded, but that would be doing something just to be doing something.

Which ship are you on?

If we're bring honest nowhere in Hawaii has really great nightlife except maybe some spots in Honolulu. Even restaurants in Lahaina are closing kitchens by 10 and the bars not much longer behind that in tourist areas/resorts.

my wife keeps saying why are we doing Hawaii when we like the caribbean.......lol she might have a point

This is the strangest Hawaii itinerary I've ever seen. It seems like they are just trying to burn time until it's time for the Sydney portion of the ship's schedule. That said, you will certainly not want for nighttime activities on The Edge.

My $0.02: the best night life you'll find on the Kona side of the island is a night snorkel (or dive, depending on your skills) with the manta rays. This was an amazing included excursion on my cruise, but it's offered by a bunch of 3rd parties. The only warning is that, even if they include food, you will probably become hungry again once you're no longer on the small boat, so plan on finding late night snacks or room service aboard.
