How to spend a day in (or around) Belize City

So I was just looking for a beach day, but apparently Goff's is not opening up ANYTIME soon.

What can we do? Any suggestions?

I don't want to do any cave exploration, zip lines, hours on a bus to check out ruins is a no, etc...Broke my knee last year and just want to keep it chill.

Considered doing a water taxi over to Caye Caukler, but seems we'll spend more time on the taxi, then exploring the island.

I'm really bummed about Goff's, was looking forward to relaxing on the beach and snorkeling a bit.

There's a man-made beach, "Cucumber Beach", in Old Belize City.  It's where locals go.   Haven't been there in years, but you can take a taxi from port.

But if you're knee is giving you problems getting up and down, especially on tenders and docks, you may just want to enjoy a day on the ship.

We went to Cucumber Beach last year and will not go there again. The water looks nothing like the picture in the link above. However, the vendors were extremely nice and said they wished the people selling the tours were more honest about what to expect because so many people were disappointed when they got there. We stayed a couple of hours and then left.

Agree, I'm looking for a beach day w a little snorkeling mixed in, but definitely not Cucumber... We may just hang on the ship while in Belize.

I have done Caye caulker twice with Coral Breeze and was an excellent experience, they took good care of us and if you are not snorkeling, they drop you on the island first and pickup so snorkel folks can get lunch before heading back to port.

I did Altun Ha tour solo a few years ago while hubby went diving.  Here's my video if it helps.  Its a nice half day tour, great guides, great food.

Great video! We’ve been warned to bring bug spray because the bugs are so bad there.  Did you find this to be the case?  I’m also thinking long sleeves and long pants as I am very susceptible to bites.

Thanks!   You know, it must vary by season.  We have never had a problem so I guess we got lucky.  We take bug spray with us, just never had any need for it.

Wow!  Thanks for that super quick response! I wasn’t expecting that. 😊
