Lady Hudson Posted January 27, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 27, 2023 My sister just booked a 9 day trip on Liberty of the Seas for 5/4. She is going solo and was quoted a trip insurance rate of $189. Could this be correct? I never paid that much for a 12 day. Please advise — mistake on rep’s part?
S.A.M.J.R. Posted January 27, 2023 #2 Share Posted January 27, 2023 Without knowing what's included in the policy, it's hard to say (does RC insurance offer "cancel for any reason" for an added fee" Did it have extra for lost baggage or hotels or something?). Unless you're able to compare apples to apples, I don't think you can look at what you've paid before. Personally, I would advise her to book with a 3rd party. Better rates and you can select what you get.
Lady Hudson Posted January 27, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted January 27, 2023 I am asking if RC policies have increased in price. The most we have ever paid has been around $79 per person per trip, I believe.
iuki Posted January 27, 2023 #4 Share Posted January 27, 2023 Booking with RCI, everyone pays the same. Third-party insurance rates vary based on age. So it depends upon her age. After a certain age, many times third-party insurance will not cover cruisers, whereas, RCI never denies coverage based on age. Like everything else, rates have probably increased. I’m 76 and my husband is 78. I have, in the past, checked out third-party coverage vs RCI and didn’t find insurance to be cheaper than RCI. However, check out the insurance forum here on cruise critic. You’ll learn a lot and your sister can make a better-informed decision before she makes her trip insurance payment. The insurance is based on the cost of the trip and nothing else. Prices have not changed in the past 4 years at least, maybe longer

Without even looking I can tell you that is incorrect. It goes by price points. 0 - $250; $251 - $500 etc...Impossible for it to be a set %. It's also closer t0 10% if you are looking for an average. Here's the rate sheet Edited January 28, 2023 by Ourusualbeach
Lady Hudson Posted January 28, 2023 Author #8 Share Posted January 28, 2023 Interesting. Thanks for the responses. My sister’s cruise is a “free” casino trip. Even a solo for the ocean view cabin would not cost between $2000 and $2500. I think she may need to call and double check with another representative. Katherine Sounds like the rep priced it on the cruise fare before the discounts were applied as opposed to after. Rare Denversail Posted January 28, 2023 #10 Share Posted January 28, 2023 So I can tell you that I booked a solo trip for April via the casino (only paid port fees and taxes). I purchased insurance via Royal. I called back a week later and added a passenger which I also opted for insurance. The total cabin insurance went down. This was all in the last couple weeks. I don’t think it was a mistake. Just the way they price it.
