Hibachi using UDP

Just looked at the available reservations for Hibachi on our cruise in August. Times are showing in the 5 o'clock hour and 9 o'clock hour. Do you think I should grab one of the later 5 o'clock times and get reimbursed once on board to guarantee a spot. Have not had the UDP so unclear exactly how it works, especially with Hibachi. We are a party of 4 if that matters. Thanks.

If you have the UDP, you can't book reservations until you're onboard.  That's the trade-off for getting the much lower price per meal by getting the package.  People who book individual reservations and pay that higher, single booking price, get to choose their time.  Those who have UDP can then see what is still available--best to know what you want and head to any specialty restaurant as soon as you board to try and get all your choices booked.  But you may have to be flexible.

7:00, 7:15 and 7:30 reservations are held back for booking on board however many of the suites grab up those spots through the concierge.

We love UDP but we do book suites, having concierge is a great way of solving issues. Had a issue with rude host at chops ,  we were in suite lounge a little later and a officer asked us how are cruise was , mentioned we had a issue with chops , he immediately got on phone with manager there , we had no issues after that.

They were definitely helpful the couple times we have stayed in suites.  Once on board I find the D concierge is usually great you just can't get them to help pre cruise.

We have booked and paid full price several times to lock in a day and time we want. After boarding we make a visit to GS and switch the reservations over to our package. They will give you a fully refundable OBC for the purchase, probably ding you for the $15 upcharge.
