Rare babs135 Posted February 12, 2023 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2023 Has anyone heard of an insurance company refusing to pay out because the claim was made in the first year of its inception? Not cruise related but just interested. Gentleman retired to Turkey has had a stroke and is now in a deep coma. Family want to bring him home to be with them but insurance company will not pay out. Switching off his life support machine is not allowed. Sounds odd.
Aulanis Posted February 12, 2023 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2023 Not heard of it personally but there are umpteen reasons they might reject a claim. The policy documents would need to be scrutinised .
Harry Peterson Posted February 12, 2023 #3 Share Posted February 12, 2023 Sadly, insurance companies frequently refuse to pay out, not necessarily in the first year, but for all sorts of reasons. This looks like a large claim on a health related policy, and you can be very sure that any company would look very carefully to try to find an escape route from paying. It’s not usually very difficult to find one.
Thejuggler Posted February 12, 2023 #4 Share Posted February 12, 2023 The devil will be in the detail which is lacking in the original post. What type of insurance for a start? "first year of inception" sounds very specific to a particular kind of insurance. If the person has retired to Turkey they will need Turkish health insurance and as a new resident a 12 month exclusion period for claims may well be standard.
Rare ziggyuk Posted February 12, 2023 #5 Share Posted February 12, 2023 That is unusual, normally a 12 or 24 month exclusion period will only apply to suicide which clearly a stroke is not.
